Business card question
State requires legal name to be on the business card, I have never been known by or used my real name other than to sign legal documents. Skip has been my nickname since the day I was born.

Question is would it be bad form or frowned upon to include a nickname on a business card?

If included it is required to be printed as "Skip" between first and last name.

Parents screwed me when naming me, didn't even give me a middle name.

Yeah, I've seen that a lot. I wouldn't think twice about it. It's not really a nickname, it's what you prefer to be called.

What First Amendment hating godless state do you live in? #only half pink

You can do the quote set off thing, but if you have some free time sue the state for that law.

Yeah, otherwise they will look at the card later and wonder who the hell Jebediah is. I think that is actually a pretty normal thing to do.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

SC, did a little searching last night and it looks like a requirement in some other states as well.

This is how my cards used to be, except "Skip" wasn't the name in the middle.

real name isn't terrible I guess, it's Don and no middle name. My dad doesn't have a middle name so he felt I didn't need one.

Why not legally change your first name to Skip?

BTW, I don't have a middle name either. My father never had one so didn't give me one.

Ive thought about it before but the thought of notifying every agency and getting all new stuff keeps me from it.

I've seen the nickname in quotes before

Would you satisfy your state law by using D. Skip last name ? You could make Skip your middle name legally.

Please tell me your last name is Legday. Or maybe Abeat.

That would be the best business card ever.

I don't see it as an issue, is there a rule that your proper name has to be the same size? I would have to play with it to see the look but I would be tempted to make the first name really small then Skip and last name in a normal size.

Is this a requirement for the industry that you are in, or for all business cards?

As someone who uses my middle name, I wouldn't think twice about you having "Skip" bolded or prominent in your name.

My dad is the youngest of 18 kids, I figured my grandma just ran out of ideas for names by the time he was born.

Have your real name on the front, and then on the back have your preferred name, gender, race, etc.

What??? What state is that?

Perfectly acceptable to include "Skip" between first and last name. In fact, I have a number of guys I use as local counsel around the country who do this. I have one Skip, one Chip, and one Bud, among others.

What industry are you in that your business card is regulated???

I would do the D. Skip G option. Plenty of attorneys do this, imagine it should pass whatever regulation you are dealing with.
