Most recently, probably the Ice Bucket Challenge. I didn't know all that much about ALS before those videos started circulating. I read up in some detail about it, passed along what I learned, and gave money for research funding.

Very few Awareness Raising campaigns do much for their stated objective, otherwise, in my experience.

The only thing I can think of is that after my own experiences, there is far more poverty in the world than I thought.

On the other hand, thanks to the 40 years or so of a number of cancer awareness fundraisers, I'm aware of cancer. In general, I'd like to see more cancer research and less cancer awareness programs.

Several years back I gave money to Citizens Against Government Waste. It's pretty straight forward, their purpose is to help stop wasteful spending by the US Gov't. Anyway, they spent at least the amount I gave them in marketing materials in an attempt to get me to give them double that. I didn't appreciate it.

First of all, I never implied that any one person in particular has herpes. I just saw this news story about the CDC’s assertion on this matter and thought it to be rather remarkable that I’ve never heard this before.
