Movie Review: Kingsman: Golden Circle

If you liked the original Kingsman movie, you'll probably like this one as well.

Kingsman: Golden Circle is set just a year or two after the end of the first film. Eggsy is living with his Swedish Princess girlfriend (whom he saved in the first movie), operating as a spy, and settled in as an experienced Kingsman agent. Just as things are at their best, all of the Kingsman agents except for Eggsy and Merlin are assassinated, and the two of them have to activate their doomsday protocol, figure out who is behind the murders, and take their revenge. But first, they need to find support, since all Kingsman agents and facilities have been eliminated. As you saw from the trailers, this leads them to America, and their cousin agency, the Statesmen. After a rough start, the Statesmen and remaining Kingsmen team up to foil the villain's evil plot, to save countless lives, and to avenge the murdered Kingsman agents. Their task is complicated by a psychopathic villain with evil robots, and the return of one of Eggsy's rivals from Kingman training and his mentor Harry, who was thought to be dead. Will they save the world in time? Will all the Kingsmen and Statesmen survive? Is there a double agent in their midst? Well, it's a comic book movie, so....

Golden Circle had a very similar tone and pacing to the first movie. Action from the first few minutes, with a fair amount of basically silly gore, lots of cursing, and some sexual humor. It is a very comic-book style movie, so don't go into it expecting even the kind of "realism" you'd get in a Bond movie. Most of the original cast reprise their roles, along with the additions of Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, and Jeff Bridges. Overall, good fun, and a good afternoon theater popcorn movie.
