Every once in a while Texas secession talk pops up. Does Harvey put a stop to that for good?

Seems as though a large swath of Texas is going to need to lean on the rest of the us for a long time to help them bounce back, no?
I think one of the secession arguments is that Texas contributes a lot more than they get back. Looks like they'll be getting tons of federal aid money to help rebuild and improve infrastructure to prevent this from happening again.

Maybe.
But if they secede, what will it cost to build a wall from Louisiana all the way around the Texas border to the current New Mexico/Mexico border in order to keep the bad hombres out of the US?
And will any Texas universities be allowed to play for the NCAA Football National Championship?

True...the football argument is probably the strongest argument to stay as one of the 50

It doesn't matter, Texas will pay for it.

The article below cites a stat that 34% of those in the southwest (including Texas) want their state to secede. That's a pretty big chunk of people.

For the same reasons California could never succeed, neither could Texas. If federal funding for Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, education, and infrastructure was taken away, Texas would go bankrupt in a matter of months. Loss of FDIC insurance would cause a run on all the banks. Pulling out the military bases would leave ghost towns. No more federal employees, no TSA, no federal funds for its airports. No more FBI, ATF, and Boarder Patrol. Good luck with the Mexican influx, gangs, and drugs.
The US government provides 60% of the aid to the poor in Texas, along with food stamps, free school lunches, and unemployment compensation. All would be gone. Plus, Texas would have to set up its own defense.
