We already know your narrative. If its not happening in southern Alberta then its just not happening.

I really don't know whats stranger about Macron - the fact that he's been elected president despite having no political experience (like Trump) or the fact that his wife is 24 yrs older than him, first getting involved when he was 15 and she was 39. But then it is France.

And the other really strange thing is that he has been elected president but his party has no representation in parliament.

Is 90% considered a landslide?

Yup, a much smaller margin would also be a landslide. Are you referring to the margin of victory in Paris?

We can only hope. The Freedom Fries movement was, by far, the greatest moment in the history of US politics.

So you know nothing about cuisine. Gotcha.
Comparing macaron and macaroon is on par with comparing a a t-bone steak with a jar of mayo.

Macaroons are nasty. I hate coconut. Macarons are delicious. Shut your face. You're allowed to talk again when the football season starts.

You're as uneducated on French politics as you are the US. And quick to promote it.

Francois met an American today and asked him:
"Do you speak English?"
"No", he replied.
"You are welcome" said Francois...........

Off topic, but this is always worth repeating.

"When you go to Heaven,
- You're greeted by the British.
- Everything is organized by the Germans.
- The French do the cooking.
- And the Italians are in charge of the entertainment.
When you go to Hell,
- You're greeted by the French.
- Everything is organized by the Italians.
- The British do the cooking.
- And the Germans take care of the entertainment. "

(What would the Americans do?)

"Human existence is based upon two pillars: Compassion and knowledge. Compassion without knowledge is ineffective; Knowledge without compassion is inhuman." Victor Weisskopf.

I've been doing a little reading, I don't think Marcon is the liberal you think he is. Time will tell, but his labour reforms & pro-globalization stance are both very much not in keeping with a pro-working class political party. He seems to be a bit of populist with a broad appeal. Expect some labour strife in the coming years if his party gains some seats in the next election. His politics will be guided by which party holds the balance of power, whether it's socialist or rightest. So in conclusion, at this point from what I can see he has about as much power as Canada's Head of State. In other words, the election is inconsequential, as much hand rubbing as there has been over le Pen in particular and to a far lesser extent Marcon (in itself odd as he was never really in danger of losing), the position is meaningless until the general elections are over. Macron will be toothless if his new party doesn't win any seats, the worst position he can bein is to be at the bidding of either political extreme unable to compromise. Neither of which are not the centrist's that I suspect that the French desire to be.

Actually it's even more dramatic :)

Heaven is a place where
The British are the policemen
The Germans are the engineers
The French are the chefs
The Italians are the lovers
And everything is organized by the Swiss

Hell is a place where
The British are the chefs
The Germans are the policemen
The French are the engineers
The Swiss are the lovers
And everything is organized by the Italians

Wrong. Americans take solace that the French are just as misogynistic as Americans.

I do keep looking for statements from Le Pen about her not being elected because she is a woman. I can't seem to find one though.

I think he will be a lame duck

He has no party apparatus. Whilst he beat le pen 2:1 i think there were 16m spoiled ballots and 10m with no candidate

His plan for europe is greater financial integration, mutualising the debt, integrated financial management, reducing germanys surplus

The germans are not going to buy in to sharing debt or a common tax policy

He wants to reduce the public sector from 56% of gdp to 52

When he was part of hollandes government with a party machine he could not get labour reform through

What can he do wwithout it?

He is like BO. All hope and change just without the change bit

France needs structural reform. He will not deliver it.

Le pen or the rebranded FN can come back and run on a platform of macron was more of the same and delivered nothing

Europe needs fundamental reform but there is no appetite for it. Brexit will not cause it. Greek defaulting or italy removing itsself might
