film photography - developing question
i need a developing tank - 35mm

paterson (plastic) tank or stainless? Price is similar enough that it doesn't matter.

I understand that the stainless is more efficient with developer, and won't wear out. Paterson is possibly easier to load (I'm pretty coordinated though) and adaptable to medium format without buying a separate reel.

Stainless all the way! While they might take getting used to load (you need to kink the edges a tad to get film started), they are less prone to failure compared to the plastic reels. I would buy a stainless tank that holds both 35mm & medium format and the reels to fill it. The other bonus with stainless is that fluid temps can be better regulated - it is much easier and quicker to stick a stainless tank in warm water and bring up to the correct temps prior to use.

BTW, when I sold off my darkroom about 15 years ago, I kept my stainless tanks and reels.

I've developed with Paterson for over 10 years without any issues or concerns. That's what I learned on and am very comfortable with the results I get. Have never used SS (not the Nazi version) so no feedback.

You've never not used the nazi ss? Isn't that a double negative???

Pretty funny that Godwin's law was fulfilled on only the 2nd response on this topic...

I prefer the plastic for two reasons: super easy to load and you don't need anything extra to develop 120

My cat says stainless.

Now there's 3 votes stainless.
