Problem is usually that most songs on the radio are sung by high tenors and the range is too high, especially if you don't have much practice.

Yeah it's one of those deals that you sing half the song on one level and the other half at a lower level. Seems like you should be able to drop the entire thing but that doesn't seem to work either.

Of course 50% of the time I'm just making some guttural noise because I have no idea what the words are :-)

I can't help you, but thanks for that version of After the Gold Rush as I've never seen it before. I love Emmy Lou Harris' harmonies with Gram Parsons, Neil Young, and Mark Knopfler.
