A judge in California just ruled that the words "under God" in the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional. The original poster is making a stupid joke about how saying the pledge with those words is criminal.

"does this mean I have to learn a new pledge????"

Only if you live in California. :)

You'd just take out the "under God." ("one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice...")

Rather than argue or agree, I'll respectfully point out once again that this thread belongs in the Lavender Room right next to the other, identical thread.

I really don't understand the fervor this issue creates on both sides. Is little Susie athiest really traumatized by having to say "under God"? Will the nation really descend into hell if we drop God's 1954 addition?

At least with other polarizing issues we can argue things like dead babies, dead soldiers or debt that our grandkids can pay for.
