Help get rid of this damned derbiz programme.
Last month a launch derbiz.com icon appeared on my desktop and changed my home page to theirs. Now I went to all programmes (XP home OS) and uninstalled launch derbiz programme, and it dutifully disappeared. I then recieved a window stating that I needed to configure to a dial up connection (as I am on broadband) and offered derbiz to me. I delted all this and wnet into add/remove programmes, there is no sign of derbiz or of any unknown programmes there. I installed spyware buster and during it's 30 day trial it deleted a lot of unwanted programmes etc, but not derbiz. I keep having to reset slowtwitch as my hompage every 3 days or so.

How do I get rid of this programme? It's a real pain in the arse, and it also has re-introduced pop-ups to my machine.

My guess is it is in the registry, which means you can't get rid of it all that easily (but can be done for sure). MS just released a new spyware/adware/virus detection program a few weeks back that is supposed to be highly effective, so you could try that (I think it is free).

I use Lavasoft Adware Personal, and Spybot Search & Destroy (both free) to scan for stuff like that. I recommend that to you.

You can also go here: http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/ and it will do a real simple scan (assuming you use IE).

You can also just type in the program name (like derbiz.exe, but I think it would be sbl.exe and lbs.exe) in Google and you'll get lots of hits on sites that detail the security threat of the stuff and how to fix it.

Finally, my personal recommendation is you download Mozilla Firefox and start using that. It is more stable and less prone to any spyware/adware. I've been using it for several months and have had no issues with those things. In addition, I think the functionality is a lot better. It uses tabbed browsing, so you can have 5 webpages open all at the same time, loading stuff etc, and you can easily flip through them. I dig it.

So the suggestion is to go to the site of the maleficent software and run an executable they provide? Not saying it won't work, but that just doesn't seem very safe.

Well, I tried LavaAd, but it requires you to purchase online, I don't like to buy sight unseen. Spybot loaded and looked hopeful, but when I logged back on this morning der(fucking)biz is still there! I guess Modzilla firefox necessitates a purchase also.

The castlecops post which purported to have derbiz' backing didn't work, and the forums/spyware thread that oldbrit kindly offered was a manufacturer collating data to improve his (to buy) product.

I'm off to PC World to see what software I can buy to rid me of this irritation.

I got LavaAd and Firefox both for free.

Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
and click "Free Download"

Lavasoft: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5

Don't buy anything yet!

The scan were free but purchase was needed to get the programmes to remove the unwanted "intruders".

Ok, so I loaded Firefox from your link and it stopped at the mozilla update page after changing my homepage on start up to it's own. Where do I go to get a scan then remove the derbiz programme?

Kidding of course.

I'm going to use my immense time wasting skills and look with a purpose to get rid of derbiz. Besides, it sounds German, and I hate Germania.

I thought you meant my typing skills, until I realised that your are probably expecting me to use the American version of the English word "Programme". Tell you what if you get rid of this, I may even use the incorrect spelling of favourites for you and drop the u!

I've always loved "Ye Olde Shoppe".

This seemed promising:
http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?p=2564263

Every forum post on fixing it seems to involve running a program called HijackThis.

Also sounds like the virus comes from a mesage received in MS Messenger, so if you are running that I'd recommend shutting it down for now, just to be safe.

Yeah, this sucks. You got yourself one helle of a bad virus it seems (at least in terms of effort to get rid of it). You should either follow the basic steps from the immediately previous post I just made, or this one below:

http://forums.designtechnica.com/showthread.php?t=7868

Sounds like you are going to have to install at least 2 more programs, reboot several times and even run your computer in Safe mode.

A great way to spend a Saturday!!

Oh, and make sure you search for updates for all the virus/spyware/malware detection programs.

I tried the Hijackit programme but it either went to purchase or it just sat and did nothing after loading and scanning, I can't recall which.

Which previous post did you mean? The one about the forum or closing messenger? I went to PC world and they suggested Hijackit and then trying to find the derbiz.exe file in the C drive progam(!) files whilst operating in safe mode. I could find that file but removed a bucketful of cookies and other files. I only one I didn't recognise was unistill wise or unwise install, I forget which, I have tried so many things that they are all blending into one now!

I'd follow what they said in either of these two forums (they are basically the same process).

http://forums.designtechnica.com/showthread.php?t=7868

Weird/odd that you can't get Hijack program to work. I don't know much about the program, but maybe you can post on one of the forums to try and get help?
