Smashed my finger under a cabinet a few days ago wow was that fun. Cracked the nail groove on one side of the finger. Anyway, it's become quite red and all the symptoms of 'paronychia' infection ring true from what I can read...seems to be a very common response to injury of this type. Coming home from a work trip today....what kind of doc can lance this open? Just a doc in the box immediate care or does someone else like a specialist need to look this over? I don't have any reg doc as, knock on wood, I'm never sick or the like.
Thanks!
Simple paronychia is easy to manage, any urgent care should be able to handle it.
Ok cool thanks. Figured it was not to difficult, but didn't want a wasted trip.
Although if there's no obvious collection of pus, there's not a whole lot to do, besides maybe antibiotics.
What good timing! Just got out of a little immediate care joint and indeed paronychia...no biggie. Keflex for a week, made a little nick on the nail edge and squeezed all the puss out. Whew.....feels way better.
How do you feel about self-treatment with a razor blade? It works. Anything to get that nice, thick, green pus out of there (if you later see red streaks up your hand, take a fast train to the ER).
Oh... and keep it clean, and use neosporin.
after you lance open the nail with a razor blade, treat it with the healing lemon juice as above, and do report back!
I've had this a few times mostly from sticking myself while skewering chicken...lol Never knew what it was called, cool thanks. :))
On the bright side, this isn't the oldest post brought back to life. Bad bot though...
