Ohio Gov. Taft: Four Counties Have More Registrants than Eligible Voters

Appearing on CNN’s American Morning program Tuesday, Ohio’s Republican Governor Bob Taft painted a disturbing picture of widespread vote fraud in his state.

Taft told CNN’s Bill Hemmer that in four Ohio counties, more people have registered to vote than live in those counties and are of voting age.

"We have four counties where you have more voters registered than you have 18 and over population,” Taft said.

Taft noted the role of Democrat 527 groups who have inflated Ohio’s voter registeration rolls.

"We've had a lot of fraudulent voter registrations already, mostly by those 527 groups. There will be unprecedented scrutiny of this election on both sides,” he said. Taft noted that many of these new registrations appear to be fraudulent.

"A lot of these voters don't have addresses,” he said of the new registrations. "When they send the postcard out to them, after they register, that comes back undeliverable. You're talking about thousands of cases like that all across the State of Ohio.”

Taft says he hopes the heightened level of scrutiny will lead to "an accurate count for the State of Ohio.”

Taft said vote monitors will seek to "make sure that a voter is a citizen, 18 and over, and a resident of the precinct and county where they plan to vote.”

Depends on whose side you're on. You either call James Baker or you buy a bottle of champagne and celebrate into the wee hours of the morn! Sounds fishy though...

That's funny, but true.

CE is always pointing out voter fraud from the dems, and conveniently ignoring the stuff going on by the reps.

Notice that the reps actually have had a high ranking official arrested for voter fraud, yet he's not that outraged about it.

Feel free to start a thread to talk about it and find out if I am or not. What truly astounds me is how predictably Dims answer "Yeahbut the Republicans did..."

Dims never, under any circumstances, answer charges against them. Clinton didn't commit perjury, because Ken Starr was overzealous? Try that in court on your next speeding ticket!!

Cuz, that's the Left's way: don't answer the charges brought against them. Rather, hurl countercharges and paint the Right as some sort of evil organization. I notice that not a person on the Left has come forward to explain how it could be that the registrants outnumber the population.

Nope. What you just had happen to you is what they always do: Point out something not germane to the discussion at the moment and say that the Right was even more wrong than the Left, and always, always something about how some Republican somewhere was caught doing the very same thing that they now don't want to give an explanation for themselves :-)

But it's worked throughout history. Slay the messenger and throw enough mud to obscure the basic fact. And pray that no one catches on before November 2nd.

It seems obvious what you do if you have more voters than citizens.

Vote Early

And Often

Couple of possibilities here. First, some counties here in IN are doing a new census every 2 years because of growth...are these counties in OH in high growth (like, suburbs) areas? If so, are the total # of residents being calculated from 2000 census data, or some other way?

Also, some people move and re-register in a new precint/town without removing the old registration.

Or, it could just be fraud. Some guy here got busted for voting in the wrong precinct.....used a rental property address and not his official residence. They gave him 10 days in jail!

- - Considering that Mary Poppins is registered, I'm inclined to go with fraud. Also a number of dead folks got out of their graves to register, and this isn't even Chicago!

- - Probably a Republican. Seriously, however, they probably wouldn't have given him jail time unless he tried to vote for both addesses. Perhaps the rental property was in a different state than his other registration? In the last election, a lot of NYers registered to vote in FL, using their winter home, but also voted absentee in NY.

It's kinda interesting. I'm surprised you can go to jail for this. About a 75% chance he is/was a Republican based on where he lives: Firefighter who cast ballots illegally to serve 10 days in jail

The Associated Press October 26, 2004 1:04 AM

ANDERSON, IND. -- A former firefighter who pleaded guilty to perjury and to casting ballots using an Anderson address while actually living in a nearby town will serve 10 days in jail.

Ronny Douglas, 58, of Pendleton, made no comment when Madison County Court Judge David Hopper sentenced him Monday to 18 months on each count to be served at the same time, most of it on probation.

Hopper also ordered that Douglas could not participate in any political activity, except for voting.

"I think a portion of the sentence has to be executed," said Hopper. "The nature of the offense, although not violent, is extremely offensive to those who take their citizenship and right to vote seriously."

Douglas had been a member of the Anderson Fire Department since 1967 until retiring in July. He was charged this year with felony counts of perjury and voting in the wrong precinct in 2000, 2002 and 2003.

Authorities said he used the address of a rental property he owns in Anderson when he was really living in Pendleton, about 25 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

The rest of the perjury and voting fraud charges were dismissed as part of an August plea agreement.

Defense attorney Bob Cowles said Douglas got caught up in a longtime practice in Madison County, voting illegally in city elections to maintain his rank and position with the department.

"This won't happen again," Cowles said. "He is no longer in fear of losing his rank or position at the Anderson Fire Department."

Mike Chambers, Madison County's chief deputy prosecutor, said that the FBI and Indiana State Police were still investigating several allegations of voter fraud.

- - I'd say about a 90% chance he's a Democrat based on his occupation (workin' for da gummint).

"Defense attorney Bob Cowles said Douglas got caught up in a longtime practice in Madison County, voting illegally in city elections to maintain his rank and position with the department."
- - This is just stupid. The FD has a reg that you have to live where you work, and everyone that he worked with had to know where he lived. Probably a lot more of them that could be busted for this.

OTOH, I'd bet anything the guy didn't vote twice, although he may have been voting on some local issues on which he had no right to vote because he didn't actually live there.
