And just exactly why should Americans give a shit about that? That's like stressing over whether or not your neighbors will like your new car. Sort of juvenile, really. RR,
May I ask what sort of business are you in? Are you in a business where to be successful you need to work with an get cooperation and buy-in from other people? Do you work in a business where their needs to be integration of different factions within a company or between other companies?
I'm curious and I ask this, because are you more likely to forge a winning deal, or plan with someone who you disapprove of or who you admire?
Trump and the U.S. may have got their Wall or got their Wall much more easily and perhaps even financial buy-in from Mexico, if Trump and the U.S. were highly admired by Mexicans. They are NOT going to get that now or ever!
Trump wants to renegotiate NAFTA - On the whole, that may not be such a bad thing, but with Trump's approval rating in Canada - 15% I think - , and even lower in Mexico, how difficult will it be for him to sit down and get the deal he wants?
Do you have any examples where countries did something against their national interest because the United States was a popular leader? Take the entire Obama Presidency if you'd like.
You are just being stubborn to be stubborn. Can you really not see where negotiating with someone you like can lead you to give up more than you otherwise would?
Last year we made an offer on a house. The owner was clearly an ass and was nickle and diming the sale price. I imagined what he would have been like in due diligence. We walked when we were within 0.5% of each other because I was tired of his BS. Six mortgage payments later his house is still sitting empty and for sale. But his agent said he was ready to make a deal! Being an ass doesn't always work on the negotiating table.
