Best/Worst Tan Lines
I got some terrible tan lines: the typical "wings" from the back of the tri-tank and mid-thigh where the shorts end.
Unfortunately, I also have the "whale tail" from the singlet riding up in back.

Anybody else have goofier/worst tan lines?
Either from the misapplication of sunscreen or tri gear?

Must post pics or it didn't happen.

I've been working on some pretty weird ones so far this year.

Every day before a run or ride, I take great pains in lining up my shorts to the exact same location on my legs. It looks like someone taped off my legs and painted them brown from mid-thigh down. My wife noticed a couple of days ago and said that they were "freakish". Mission accomplished.

I have no idea why this means so much to me this year. Mid-life crisis perhaps.

I normally get a good all over summer tan with 15 -20 minutes a day 2-3 times a week .
But the evolution from winter to no tan lines , there is a stage " shaved legs up the bottom of the shorts " . This with hairy arms / farmer john tan ... Its down right scary .

I am for the most part still white as a sheet. For the most part in our area it has been a wet, overcast and cool spring. So not too many sunny rides and more than few rides with arm and leg warmers.

Although yesterday I was out for a hard 90K through the mid-day and with very high UV. The Coppertone Sport spf30 I was using left me for the most part pretty white, although a few freckles popped out!

Admittedly the tan lines from tri training are kinda dorky. Two solutions:

1. Train inside all the time or in the dark

2. Tan nude!

I've got a bade cyclist tan right now after forgetting my sunscreen last weekend. However, the worst I have seen was a friend of mine growing up. He put sunscreen every where but his armpits and then proceeded to fall asleep belly up with his arms over his head. The whole rest of the summer he had dark brown splotches under is arms.

This season I had a 1.5-2" band around both upper arms where they were exposed between my jersey and my arm warmers. My pilates instructor pointed it out as she couldn't figure out how I could do such a thing.

On a separate occasion, the lower 4 inches or so of my legs were burned -- knee warmers to socks. Guess I should still apply sunscreen even when its cold.

Other than this, I just have the normal cycle/tri tans. I do enjoy the different gradients of tan on my upper legs since not all of my shorts are the same length.

I had an odd ball tan/burn earlier in the year. That's what you get for allowing the 5 year old to apply sun tan lotion :-)

My training partner had a nice one this spring from consecutive long rides over the weekend. First day, he had a long sleeve jersey rolled up mid forearm. Second day, was short sleeves. After the weekend his arms were looking more like neopolitan ice cream.. strawberry, chocolate, vanilla.

The reason I still like the "old style" cycling gloves [the ones with the exposed circle on the back of the hand] is the fact you get that dollar coin size tan line. It is like a badge of cycling honour.

I've had some pretty interesting tan lines on my head from my biking helmet in between the time I had hair and started wearing a do-rag.

I've been sporting race numbers on my arms for the last three weeks. Getting pretty faint now, but they were b'glorious for a while.
