How are you? How was your week?
Hey @Chowders, thanks for keeping it going!
Another big week of training in the books for me last week. I started Dry January early to coincide with this block of training and I think that was a good plan - the workouts are definitely requiring more focus on recovery. One more week and then my rest week starts next Monday
I’ve been stalking the Dry Jan thread and using it as inspiration to clean up my nutrition post the festive period. DrC has done a great job creating a community around it!
Last week was a good training week - did everything I had planned, despite staying up late to see in the New Year. I would have gone to bed early but MrsC insists that anyone who doesn’t stay up until midnight “has given up!” Swim: 10k, Bike 5hrs, Run: 33k, strength and rehab work all done. And felt pretty strong doing everything (albeit shoulder is feeling a little cranky again). And achilles is feeling normal, even first thing in the morning.
This week is the penultimate week of winter strength training block. So, training is same as last week, with a little more run volume, and a bit of shoulder TLC.
Have a great week everyone and sending positive vibes to DrT!
Been keeping it low key the end of 2024 and the first part of this year (ez runs, bike and working swim technique) as I have an ablation today to correct my dang low heart rate AFib. Late morning check in meant I was able to get in a 3 mile jog this morning. Drs are learning that they can’t say to me to resume normal activity after 7 days……instead they now are telling both me and my wife that it is okay to gradually start training again after 7 days:-) Here is to better blood flow in 2025!
Good luck with the ablation. Keep us posted!
@Chowders - yeah the Dry January thread is great. I think this is my 7th or 8th year joining in with DrCupcake.
Sat on my butt recovering from flu. Got to love family gatherings for spreading the bugs!
I had a slow december month for several reasons and mostly work
Started january properly and so far, I only missed 1 swim session
However, no idea why, but the reality of IM Nice (which I am doing this year) is starting to sink in. Yesterday I checked videos of the bike course (the most impressive part of the race imo) and I even made Training Peaks workouts with simulations of the race climbs based on my current FTP and so on (used several online calculator but I managed)
I realised I am overthinking it but it got me in a weird state where every rest days have become waste days. I will bring that up when I call my coach later this month.
But yeah, training doing ok but race apprehension is starting to kick and we still have 6 months to go X)
Welcome! Will this be your first IM?
It’s certainly tempting to view rest days and recovery weeks as wasted time but they’re SO important in the long run. I started with a cycling coach last summer and he initially kept me on my schedule of one rest day/week. Then he transitioned me to two/week and I am starting to see the value of that second rest day, specially now that I’m in a really tough block.
If you feel the need for that day to be productive, then getting ahead on nutrition prep seems like a win/win.
Exciting race to be looking forward to! Best of luck with your training
Airing of the grievances immediately followed by the spreading of the bugs, all in festivus tradition.
276 days in a row healthy coping

Hi! Thanks for the welcome!
Yes it will be my first Ironman (not first triathlon though)
Thanks for the advices, I will certainly look into food prep
Thank! The race looks beautiful although the descent frightens me a bit
I ought to work on my bike handling skills
