Does anyone know if you can put the standard garmin speed/cadence gsc 10 sensor on the kestral 4000 with a rear zipp disc?
Mostly concerned about cadence as the 910 will still give me GPS speed. I tried putting the cadence magnet and sensor on the right crank but it’s real tight and was hitting either the di2 box of the chain in the big wheel.
Any tricks?
Why is your speed/cadence on the right/drive side? Mine is on the left and it’s fine. You might want to try slimmer magnets. Look for low profile cadence magnet and it just slips into the area by your pedal spindle. They make similar slim ones for attaching to the wheel.
Nevermind, at full inflation the 25c tire doesn’t have enough clearance. Frick.

I realize this thread is about the 4000, but as you all seem to be fans of the brand, I have an Airfoil (54) that is in excellent condition. Complete with Di2. I’ve tried eBay a few times, but no nibblers. If anyone is interested, you can message me thru my website www.dede-griesbauer.com.

The 25c tire does fit. I just had to pull the dropouts back a little and adjust the brake pads out. That’s always a ton of fun since the drive side brake pad is hard to access and you’re never 100% sure the dropouts are even.
If you know anyone who would like to step up to a 4000, my 57cm beauty is on eBay, reserve bid met, so auction is on. I am thinking of a Kestrel Legend w/Dura Ace Di2 for next bike, so OI may be banished from the 4000 club. It is a superb bike, and I’ve loved it.

I have another issue; Garmin gsc 10 on left chain stay. I like to tuck the speed sensor down toward the wheel (between chain stay and spokes). However I find the clearance is super low, so I have it ‘flying’ upward like an attenna. (no like) Am I missing something obvious that would allow me to tuck it away as described?
I’m not sure, mine is up like an antenna.

Does anybody know what are good replacement brakes for the TRP’s? Mine are all beat up and need replacing. Just want to make sure I get a nice set that fit on the frame posts.

Yeah, they are pricy! But from what I hear they are really solid brakes, and much easier to adjust/play with than the TRP. It’s tough to find either of them at a discount as well…

Not really true. Both brakes adjust in almost the same way. The big problem is that most people don’t know how to do it. To adjust the TRP; first make sure that the cable is tight, next move both adjuster bolts about to the middle of their range, use the barrel adjuster to get the pads close, lastly move the adjuster bolts a quarter of a turn at a time moving each on opposite of the other until the brakes are centered. Centering might take more than one try, but once it’s set, it’s set and it will stay that way.
Trying to figure out exactly what kind of bb will fit the frame. Factory says it’s a bb-30 adapter. I’ve stripped the frame down to nothing to build it back up. Was looking at going all Sram components to fit my Stages pm. Will the bb from Sram work with the frame?

If your Stages Cranks are SRAM BB30 cranks, then a SRAM BB30 bottom bracket is what you’ll need.
If your Stages Cranks are SRAM GXP cranks, then you’ll need a BB30 to GXP adapter.
There are many to choose from. Most would say the Praxis adapter is the gold standard.

Hello all – I’m a huge Kestrel fan for no particular reason, other than my KM 40 airfoil was the bike that got me back into cycling/triathlon. So I have an emotional attachment to the brand. I’m approaching 50, and was thinking of getting a 2015 4000 ltd with ultegra di2. I am slower than molasses, and the only reason I would get the bike is because I want to try di2, and I like the looks. I loved the look of the 2013 4000 ltd ultegra di2 (white), but when I go to Kestrel’s site and look at the 2015 model, I’m severely underwhelmed by its looks – the picture looks like it could have been taken in black and white. I was just wondering if anyone had a real world picture of the ultegra di2 4000 ltd. the 2013’s and 14’s in my size seem to be gone, and I can’t move up to dura ace. Any pics would be appreciated!
