ITU World Triathlon Championship Series 2025 General Chat

I’ll keep receipts

There’s been a masterplan, it’s just not materialized. The 2 biggest funded pathways for itu development in the US over the last decaded just hasn’t produced senior level talent- ncaa pathway and Podium Project. NCAA pathway I sorta theorized why it’s created burned out athletes vs pumping out countless itu successful athletes; and the Podium Project under Spencer is probaly one of the most funded programs in ITU and has the least amount of return on investment (so far). I think Vannerson is going to be PP’s 1st Olympian and I think he’s going to be an MTR focused athlete in LA cus I don’t think he’s going to have the swim yet at the 1500m distance; but many times it’'s irrelevant if T2 everyone comes together, but it’s still going to be a weakness. The top ncaa talent on the women’s side for the US I don’t think is going to be ready for LA Games within the pecking order of what USA women are slotted as (even though many of the top women actually have major question marks).

Now mind you within the ncaa pathway the best talent in the US have only now in the last ~4 years stayed in itu through ncaa triathlon. Even Knibb who had the chance to stay in tri through ncaa tri- gave hard pass on it to run xc only (while part time itu’er as well during her college years). Same for Gorman (although she was basically right at the start of the movement, so a lot of uncertanity there).

iam not saying you are wrong, but its just amerciacns dont care about short course racing full stop, like this thread had 40 different users.
and I would say most will be on all draft legal threads. unless there will be water quality issues. and also did this thread not get pretty much all draft legal staff this year and the thread title for instance does not reflect commonwealth games stuff for instance.

one could argue that a new thread altogether is in order. Because the 2025 season has very little to do with the march towards LA 28.

I need to be the one to start the thread. Starting these large threads are the only reason I don’t get kicked out of the former lavender room.

I will start the new thread on 12/15/2025 - that’s when the march to the games starts. I guess. I’ll also include an overly optomistic prediciton of US glory as well.

I see a thread which focuses on all the short course racing as an excellent coherent ‘forum’ (#notaghetto) and see your ‘crowding’ as a ‘living’ thread.
“How many people will join a 790 post thread?” is not the question. If they want to see what people are saying about SC or want to make a point/post, a thread with a clear broad title will be found, still on the first page.
@pk - I think it did, and in doing so offered both continuity and the opportunity to look both forwards and back. There’s plenty of ‘look forward’ in the posts above, since after Wollongong and indeed before. Shame if they were consigned to ST oblivion.

Sorry everyone, been busy, I think a new thread for next year should be started and this one can get binned off!

Regarding being busy, I was waiting for the last world cup race, before I was going to start a new thread for next year (if someone else wants to do the thread feel free)

I still haven’t caught up on the world cup races, after I do, get round to it this week, I wouldn’t actually have a problem with admin locking this thread (they’ve been quick enough to do it with a few others of my threads to my annoyance!)

Id also suggest a generic ITU thread, rather then a specific ‘road to LA Olympic’ thread.

i guess its kind of simple so far ajthomas’ post has the post likes and i guess the proposal that gets the most likes by close of this week might be the one to chose ?

what could also be is that if there is the LA or just itu thread ,
people if they want , can start an race specific wtcs yokahama thread for instance during race week ( i guess that would include kajets point that some people migh not want to post in a thread with 745 posts)
and since you are the chief curator her you could transfer some valuable info from this thread to the new one as a 2nd post in LA or itu thread

personally i am easy.

Very thoughtful, thank you (albeit in my case a chance to lurk while other discuss …). But sadly (esp as it is local to me) no triathlon in the commonwealth games in 2026.

good stuff, you increased this thread to 41 different posters.
and to be fair it is Australia that is responsible that there is no tri a commi games by backing out off the games for 2026. still it would have been a rather safe gold medal for potter and Scotland.
ps and sorry while I understand from a funding point of view its good for atheltes, I very much struggle with the concept of the rule Britania games.

Observations from those last couple of WC races, wonder how Anema does at WTCS level, Cantero is the new Mola??

Didn’t you watch the grand final yet?

It’s a WTS race. Her biggest weakness seems to be her bike. Especially if it is technical?

Victoria, not Australia

Personally, I see Cantero as more the new Yee (or another Yee) than the new Mola. His swim improvement has been significant in the last couple of years.

Neubert ran the same time as Tertsch in Wollongong (10km, both ‘trying’) yet was a minute slower than Charles-Barclay in Marbella. Would the top MD runners (Kleiser, Matthews, LCB, Philipp, Jewett) see off those top WTCS SC runners over 18km?

The best female runners in short course will hit 33’ off the bike for a 10k. This translates to a 1:13 half marathon, according to the runworks calculator.

Now, for a 70.3, even a 1:16/1:17 is phenomenal. This is what Jewett runs when she’s in top shape (one outlier being her 1:13 in Oceanside in 2023, not sure about course length). Kleiser regularly runs 1:15s, and she went under 1:14 in 70.3 in Valencia this season. She is an outlier.

I suppose the short course women would have a bigger edge at 18k.

But then, the question is, of course, if the surges on the bike in a draft legal kill your legs as much as the steady high power grind of a 70.3.

well Neubert says she did not have a great day at Marbella and her performace was not as good as Wollongong.
Lucy Charles run times in short course were pretty solid.
I mean derron has run with kleiser ( kleiser being one lap down in a t100 race) so yes the likes of kleiser Mathews lab and Jewett would be very good for the run but apart from Lucy non of them would be in the race for the run at WTCS level ( ie kat can run sub 16 5 k and that is pretty good ( not top 5 WTCS level good but pretty solid WTCS level good . Mathews would do very well in european cup as she could most likely cycle up to the lead group.and would surely be on the podium most of the time , at the same time at WTCS she would be a no hoper, bit like perterer and loveseith were …
in short I dont even know what the question is as we have seen it now many times in t 100 who is good.
and the difference is short course many 800 watts spikes on the bike and also a good bit easy peddalening vs more consistent watts for 80 k , somebody like Laura can not deal with the 800 watts while kat could but they both would not be in the race after the swim.
and yes I do not expect any female to outrun kleiser if kleiser is one lap behind. same with jewett over 18k but here is the kicker this is not going to happen that they actually will run side by side… and if they work more on swim and bike guess what the run will get slower … more power more weight different muscles etc etc
to add Neubert is certainly not maxed out yet. ( she raced Marbella on a borrowed bike and no proper bike fit, no wind tunnel time ) also by far the youngest of the athetes you mention

to add what would be really great, would be a draft and non draft series.

Yep I didn’t realise, or just forgot she raced in the final, again though now she’s had a couple of more races under her belt and over the apparent injury plagued year she had last year, she’s an interesting addition to GB women.

Why more Yee than Mola? The dude is Spanish!

She is indeed. From a swim background, (pretty obvious that). So should be able to improve her bike ( which needs improving) and, hopefully her run.

Who gets funding from British Triathlon for next year should be interesting. Oliver Conway , for sure.

Michael Garr? Maybe?

Yee more likely to make the front group than Mola
