ITU World Triathlon Championship Series 2025 General Chat

Im not going to pretend I know anything about how funding works or who’s actually on it at the moment and who’s not who should be etc.

Different times in triathlon, I imagine if Yee was racing the Brownlees with Varga, Gomez etc Yee would be making a lot less front groups and the bike wouldn’t be coming together as much.

Nope, disagree, there are some ridiculously fast swim bikers in the mix now who work together to make breakaway. The front of the race is faster now than it used to be, if Yee is making podiums now, he would have made more back then.

IAM sure a lot of athletes have rewatched Hauser’s swim start in Wollongong…

Yee hasn’t made a podium since 2024, so are we talking right now or last year? Generally, we wasn’t getting many break aways in the build up to Paris is my memory of things, if they was they was easily run down by Yee and Wilde.

There’s no shame in being called the next Mola, he won 3 world titles in the era of the Brownlees and Gomez, im sure Cantero being Spanish, would much prefer him being called this than the next Yee, never underestimate ST ability to split hairs though!

Well obviously last year, it will be interesting to see if both he and Wilde focus back on short course fully how different the podiums will be for 2026. Have never really seen anyone leave racing this level and then get back to where they left off. They handed Hauser the championship for 2025 and having done so they have now left a ? If they will be able to get back to the top again.

Both Ali Brownlee and Gomez have left ITU for long periods and dropped back in where they left off, Ali with injuries and then his push for Tokyo, Gomez went LC for a year and then came straight back into ITU and was competitive for podiums.

Don’t think Blum was as competitive as the other two.

Yee won a superleague and Wilde has been injured so difficult to assess, if both fully commit to ITU next year, I’d expect them by the the 2nd half of the year to be back where they was.

They might not be so far ahead of everyone else, but they will get there by the end of next year.

Also I disagree the swim and bike has got faster, maybe evolution had got em faster, but drop modern day Varga, Brownlees, Gomez and Luis around London/Rio into the mix now, and anyone whos got a weak swim or bike is absolute toast!

Spivey had a pretty good ITU season mixed with t100. And valdamort always had ITU athletes do halfs and do very well at Oly games such as spirit and derron. Going full distance is another thing , but then Lucy Charles who had never done a ITU race did pretty ok when she did a few ( but yes I guess she is the only one ) and her biggest issue was bike handling and cornering if I rember correctly as she had never really done that.

Also I would agree while the likes of Hauser and Graf are top swimmers they are not better than Vargas. The difference is they can also bike and run and the dynamic is moving again to a small front pack. The question is will the most complete triathlete ever that Hauser likely is beat the likes of Yee and Wilde and Yee and that depends a bit on if he gets a bit more support from other swim bikers. ( And if somebody wants to say ab was as complete as or even more Hauser, no prob , but than I say swim start wollogong and ab did not have that hin him and Javier was also a complete triathlete as was Johnny and Vincent at peak )

Jorgensen might be the athlete who earns the USA a third woman start slot in LA (they have two as hosts). Selectors will select. Reflecting @monty 's optimism, easy to see her being selected if she maintains her level of performance 2024 onwards, especially if Knibb eschews the Venice Beach parking lot in favour of the style of triathlon which affords individuals the opportunity to compete individually as opposed to a ‘blow dry’.

At his best in a golden era of triathlon, was only behind the Brownlees, Gomez and Mola which isn’t too shabby!

Shame his career just sort of fizzled out, surprised he never dipped his toe into more MD races.

His heart problems hampered him A LOT in the past 6 years at least. And I think he said multiple times he never wanted to get to MD, doesn’t like anything longer than Olympic.
