Jorgenson will be out for a while, just had surgery for hagland heel issue
How come the first thing I see after an ITU race when I open social media, is a race spoiler, but in the lead up to this race, I seen zero promotion on it, so much so I knew nothing about it till I woke up this morning and seen the race spoiler (similar for Karlovy)
I wondered if Studer was a Sutton athlete while leading, was actually going to ask in here, but no need from his post race interview!
Not a bad debut by Alden, I went to see how old she was thinking she’d be early 20s, she 27 though, no spring chicken! Took a while breaking through?
Absolutely mouth watering clash with CB and Potter now awaits!
I was on the socials and saw a WT showing the front group IG post, and didn’t even realize it was (Friday their time), Thur PM my time. I tuned in the last lap of the run (bedtime for women’s race though).
Yes, I can’t remember if we’ve ever had a Friday race before (Thursday night I’d class it as really) ridiculous! For this reason alone ITU should have been reminding us, I did have this down in my calendar, but its easily overlooked.
They did. They had photos with schedules and dates all over their social media.
As I said, results (spoilers) got to me, no promotion of the race did, T100, IM, Supertri all great at informing there’s a race coming up.
Weihai was friday last year too.
Yes, races in China can be Thursday night.
I know it was a weaker field, but with this and her last race Beth does seem to be running well.
Good for Sophie Alden. Didn’t think running was her strength, but she did ok on the run
Thought Connor Bentley should’ve made that front group but he didnt
weaker is an understatement…
I would say 6th on your WTCS debut as more than ok, but I suppose I could be considered biased.
In a field half the size and without all the strong ones it’s alright. Considering who’s around her this results would be a 15-20th place in a “normal” WTCS.
Even if she was top 15 it is a brilliant result for a WTCS debut. She can only race who is there, she is a strong swim/biker and she ran 30 seconds slower than Spivey.
Which is normally a benchmark for scraping barely into top 10. C’mon don’t be purposedly obtuse, look also at the dynamics, flat race where all the girls but 3 made it together to the run, missing:
Beaugrand
Periault
Lehair
Lombardi
Waugh
Eim
Jorgensen
Vermeylen
Mansson
Koch
Knibb
GTB
Klamer
It was good, but she’s 27, not 21 like Mansson. Not exactly a young kid on the block. Let’s see if she backs it up. Normally if you’re stuck 5 years mid pack in ETU and WTC there is a reason.
Jorgensen isn’t a top tier player anymore, neither are quite a few in that list.
Really? so 4th at Yokohama this year doesn’t count?
Let’s paint a fuller picture:
Lapped out Alghero
29th Abu Dhabi
44th Hamburg
4th Yokohama
Absent since July, recently had a 2nd surgery on haglunds deformity. Can’t deny she was the best in the world but she isn’t any more sorry. The only chance she has is if the groups come together and it turns into a run race. She isn’t in the same league as the best runners now. Lehair/Beaugrand/Lombardi/Potter etc. can all out run her. Her swim isn’t front pack and her bike isn’t strong enough to drive a 3rd group back up to the lead group. She is dependent on someone like Kingma to do that work.
I think her swim is good enough actually, but she loses a LOT of time/places and misses the right packs due to her horrible T1 and her lack of ability to drill the start of the bike segment.
All true but I think it does go back to her swim. She has to drill the swim so hard, especially the last 1/3 of it just to stay somewhere in contention in 2nd pack, that she cannot do all the things after that to get onto those packs. In other words she is just too gassed to sprint T1, drill the first miles of the bike, and then grab a pack to finally get a bit of rest. Most around her and some from even behind at waters edge get into the packs, so it probably is still her swim fitness holding her back…
Abu Dhabi - Sprint she was 29 seconds down on the swim leader.
Yokohama - OD wetsuit she was 26 seconds down on the swim leader.
Alghero - OD she was 45 seconds down on the swim leader.
Hamburg - Sprint she was 32 seconds down on the swim leader.
I think we will have to agree to disagree on whether her swim is good enough. You cannot lose 30 seconds in a sprint swim and expect to be on the podium. You can hope that the race comes back together but you need strong riders around you to help make that happen.
In Hamberg she was 55 seconds down on Periault’s run, Alghero she was lapped out, Hamberg was her best where she was 10 seconds down on Potter and Abu Dhabi she was 47 seconds down on Tertsch.
I respect what Jorgensen has achieved but if she qualifies for LA US-Tri has failed its development.
At the same time in the last 54 weeks she has a 4 th a 6th and a 12 th place in the grand final at world series level and for most of the year she was top 10 in the world ranking and till last week 12th
Solid enough if you ask me.
I do agree however it would be a failure for usat if she was to qualify but still she is a top level athlete.
But a olympic champ is always good to have in a race
While we are at this have they released who got the grands from her foundation ?
