Your fastest 25 Yard lap (swimming)?

Wall start, not diving start.

17 seconds. I wish I knew how to swim ‘fast’.

I don’t know, but the very first 25m I swim when I get to the pool I feel like an olympian.

is it because the water is not yet disturbed?

probably around 9 sec’ish
.

I once did 14.5 seconds 65 times in a row without stopping.

The first 100 meters I swim at the beginning of each warm-up is usually pretty quick. Probably a combination of being fresh and an attempt to generate body heat.

To answer the OP’s question, 14 seconds from a wall start maybe? Not something I ever really timed. Fastest 50 scy block start I’ve swum is in the high 27’s somewhere (HS, I couldn’t touch that now but I could probably rival my 500 time).

probably around 9 sec’ish

holy moly!

Do you attribute it to higher RPM / turnover or are you putting more oomph into your pull?

heavy duty stuff STP. well done.

hmm, I don’t know…maybe just good genes since I grew up swimming competitively. Probably not so much higher turnover but more kicking and ‘oomph’ plus, good form/technique and a monster push off the wall doesn’t hurt!

In the swimming realm, 25 SCY is really short so, even non-sprinters could easily lay down a sub-10 sec 25. I remember a guy back in HS that went 19.9 for a 50 SCY at the state champs…he won by a long shot!!

Pardon me, but what is a ‘25 yard lap’?

11:xx for me.

You’re saying sub 10 from a push?

Yeah, I’m curious too. I wasn’t a sprint in college and popped 9 lows off the blocks and went a :21 high in the 50. If you’re doing that from a push you’re probably close to :20 low in the 50.

I think that’s stretching it. From a dive, sure…I think lots of people can swim in the 9s. I don’t think I’ve ever broken 10 from a push and I was a sprinter. I was only a high-21 for the 50 back in HS, so there are definitely a lot of people faster than I am, but I don’t think many non-sprinters can break 10 without diving.

n=2 from experience

You stopped 25 yards short of a sub 16:00 1650? Jeez, that’s like standing over a 3 foot birdie putt on the 18th and saying, ‘Nah, breaking par doesn’t matter…’

Five years ago:
Push from wall, sub 12.
Start from block, sub 11.

I think the first 25 didn’t count because it was from a dive. That’s still ridiculously fast, though.

Just so you know you aren’t the slowest I think I can manage about 18 sec.

12.00 something.

I’m not a real swimmer, but at that short distance it’s all about power, and I’ve got monkey arms for my height.

You guys can’t hold a candle to me!! I’m betting I MIGHT be able to swim a low 20’s in a 25 sprint. Now…please note that I do not swim train at all. Well ok…maybe once or twice a year when the outdoor pool first opens in May. So I can maybe push hard for 20 sec 25yds : )

Used to go 23 in 50 scy, so probably about 12 (wall to wall on second length). Never really timed a 25 though.

Nowadas could probably still pull a 13 (fresh one length, not second lap of 50).

11 seconds, been swimming for a little over a year now…
