Well when you find a Tri with a swim course that’s 50 yds long, then you can start worrying about being a sprinter. First 50 yds of a race means nothing.

gets you out of the madness and on the feet of the fast guys if you do it fast
that means something.

JBsurfing got taken to school by JMott!!
Don’t know what I can do but my 8 year old son can go 16 seconds.
Even a short guy like me can go under :15 ![]()

Great swim Sub 16!
In high school probably ~10sec… Right now probably ~13 sec
I recently did a 50 SCY in 28 from a push, so I think 13 for a 25 is doable.
probably around 9 sec’ish
… I’m calling BS. Unless your “ish” is really generous to include 9.99 and even then it’s a stretch.
The American record in the 50 SCY is 18.66 and that’s including a start off the blocks. In which case, I can’t see anyone doing 9 seconds flat from a push start.

Get in line. Your ticket is #4.

I’ll take #5. I watched the Big 12 championships this year and Jimmy Feigen (one of the fastest swimmers in the world right now) was the only guy under 10 in the 1st 25 of the 50 free and that was off the blocks.
That’s with a flip turn. Take 0.4 sec off everyone’s time and you’ll see that everyone would be under 10 if they had touched at the wall instead of flipping.
Never did that from a push, but I can remember doing something around 12 seconds from a dive during a meet warm-up. I wasn’t much of a sprinter, but every so often, coach would be scrounging up a B-relay, and my best 50 yard free time was something like 26.9.
I am just recalling from many years ago where we would do sprint relays and the coach would time us; if you went 10 sec or faster he had a remote controlled bell he would ring (sounded like like a fire bell). Maybe he was just trying to make us all think we were faster than we were!

In this scenario, I think the 0.4 seconds lost by the flip turn is more than made up for the fact that they were going off the blocks that first 25.
I think a 9 second 25 is plausible off the blocks. Push start off the wall… not so much.
Never swam the sprint freestyle shaved and tapered…
10.0 from a dive at the feet (feet touching wall after a flip turn). Our coaches where never interested in getting a hand touch 25 yard time.
That 18.66 guy had to be well below 9 at the 25 yard point.

Sir… please stand up and speak so we can hear you ;0)

Wall start, not diving start.
17 seconds. I wish I knew how to swim ‘fast’.
Sorry, Jack, but I don’t swim. I find it gets in the way of my triathlon training.
I’ve heard this before! I swim to take a break from triathlon training.
As for the speed. Only have clocks at our meter pool so fastest for me off the wall is just barely under 12 seconds scm. I’d like to say my yard time is faster but the yard pool is ridiculously warm.
I don’t know, but the very first 25m I swim when I get to the pool I feel like an olympian.
is it because the water is not yet disturbed?
I’m 6th in line. Link to results in the 50 free at ncaas our this didn’t happen.
