World Triathlon Updates Hydration Rules

Top tube is the space between steering parts and seattube - that box is well over 100mm above the top tube, so that’s a no (by my understanding)

Not looking great for the 200mm above the back of the armrest either but could be close

It will not be allowed, as it is abouve the 10 cm limit, measurement start at topedge of your toptube, they are allowed over the complete range of the top tube starting after the pivot of the handelbars.
Also, tape is not allowed.
I am not sure how this is mounted, but in some cases a joint has to be installed as this solution reaches over the pivot of the handlebars…also not part of the body is supposed to touch it, also your legs, when turning…

I think it pretty clear then that Ironman’s customers, the athletes, need to start squaking loudly and frequently to them on their strong objection to this rule change. Probably the same for affected bike companies that must have not been invited to the table for the negiotiations (note: Quintana Roo is their global bike partner, and probably the most affected by the DTU rule).

Ironman isn’t dumb, they want to make money. If they can be made to realize the number of customers affected, I believe they might apply some leverage to WT, or perhaps decline to adopt the new rules until next year (hopefully after some further tweaking!).

Maybe not with this rule specifically, but it seems likely in the future we’ll see two separate rule sets - One for pros and one for AG’s

How about Gustav Iden’s setup then?
Clearly more than 10cm elevated above the top tube.

I am interested in this setup as well. Took a screenshot to ask this same question.

M5 threaded rods and a few nuts and washers

The rule talks about being on the steering axis. This is mounted 100% to the frame. The difference with the Ku is that part is connected with the headset (steering axis).

you can mount it everywhre on the top tube, but this is surely too high, 10 cm limit!

This wont be allowed once the new rules take affect in ironman. That being said you could mount an aero waterbottle like the trek directly to the top tube. It’s less than 10cm high and not wider than the tube.

OR a hydration system like whats on the factor

Thats the queation then. Why was this allowed?

Rules hadn’t gone into effect yet???

Correct, word from inside is that the rules are likely to go into effect towards end of May, but there is ongoing discussion about how existing setups will be affected. There were lots of pictures being taken at IMTX of setups to be considered. We’ll see what they come up with.

rules are not applied and pros usually find a way of getting stuff mounted back if the judge are gone…
In my opinion, the rules a BS…

Pros just got an email from Jimmy, rules are being implemented and go into effect May 25. No mention of a measuring jig that will be used or anything.

Just saw that and came here. A lot of unanswered questions for a rule to be implemented in 30 days. Not a lot of time to build/test.

Take your tool kit with you to bike check-in and have a plan B.

I believe you’re joking but the amount of people who will need to do that is not becoming of an organization charging>$1000 for an event that is the world leader in that event.

I get that guys push the rules to their limits but this one is also going to snare people with no idea their running a disallowed setup

Yeah, imagine pulling that $$$$ KU into the bike check-in only to find out the manufacturer-produced (not some hack fix) hydration you were counting on needs to be removed.

At least in this case they have a BTA bottle mount installed as a backup. Time to get a cage at the expo.
