This is why if they consider Provo/Orem for the 70.3 Worlds it could not be in Utah Lake. That lake has a high probability of Algae Bloom in July-Sept, so no go there. However, Deer Creek reservoir is usually good year-round. For the original plan of having it in May the water quality should be fine. The only issue with Utah Lake is that the water is shallow so wind creates a lot of chop. Aside from that a swim there in May would be fine (maybe a bit cold). In May it would for sure be wetsuit legal.
Here ya go
Just general reply as it is Tuesday and @Bryancd says announcement on Tuesday and the only annoucement I got was from Ironman Europe for priority access to 2027 Ironman European championships in Hamburg (it said nothing about refunds if the place it littered with metal shards, so I am not going HAHA)
I would bet $100 an announcement comes by end of the week.
If this is a betting thread, is end of week 17:59.59 hrs PDT or 23:59.59 PDT on Friday, or is it 23:59.59 Sunday. We would need to define “end of week” (which is what I tell most of my staff when they given me nebulous times), because you can’t run a military deployment based on end of xyz, since the bomb lands exactly at the wrong time when it might just turn into friendly fire when the troops moved in thinking the place was cleared already versus the aerial support arriving before the land troops start their strike…) OK OK, back to this thread
Do you happen to know the location already?
I do not and It’s driving me nuts to be quite honest with ya!
@devashish_paul Lets say by 6pm EDT on Friday. ![]()

I said they seem to like to make announcements on Tuesdays.
The token for the tuesday announcements went to Hamburg… like @devashish_paul mentioned… Come on Bryan!!!
Didn’t you troll everyone here last year on your podcast about this very topic???
Now it seems your going to troll yourself ?? “SELF TROLL” it was only a matter the time.
If you cant laugh at yourself you lost the battle
Hey hey no need to laugh at ourselves unless we include Ironman in the collective we in which case we can laugh at ourselves for being invested enough to even care about this , but as I said during Covid19 to Andrew Messick, if we ever get out of this lockdown hell and are allowed to actually get on a plane to go to an event you guys at Ironman put on, my wallet is open to actually do sport with people from other countries….sick of all this virtual hell at work and sport. I want to do stuff with real people in real places so yeah, I am good to give these guys too much money !!!
Coming on three weeks to go.
What are the chances that something like Florianopolis gets announced if a US site can’t get everything signed up? My understanding is the Florianopolis is dead flat and would be like a Clearwater draft fest
Have you heard anything, if not about location, about the cause of the delay? It’s really strange. I am waiting to register for a 70.3 based on the WC venue. I doubt there are a ton of people like me, but there are at least some of us out there. It’s pretty frustrating.
All I have heard is “soon” ![]()
did they announcement it yet.
I assumed with about of attention you give happy valley
it was going to be there and this weekend was going to be the announcement??? hence why it has been delayed.
We always give a lot of hype and attention to 70.3 NA CHAMPS! It’s a big race! Good matchup for top athletes!
I am registered for Muskoka 70.3 in three weeks . Not knowing what we are racing for I have definitely lacked the same interest to do focused workouts like when I went to the same event to try to qualify for Nice, Marbella , Taupo, Lahti and St George respectively (I got all but Taupo at that early qual race).
It feels like an intl location is locked in and they are using that to pressurize a US venue. I just got marketing for Bahrain 70.3. I can’t image a Gulf location right now with random drones targeting places with US bases but who knows !!!
