Will There Even Be a 2027 Ironman70.3 Worlds or will they allow for deferal to 2028

That’s great news and you should have posted that right away! You’ve also given enough info to throw that captain under the bus though if anyone at IM is grumpy about such things

Seems pretty on brand for IM to get mad at a volunteer. /pink (I think?)

Haha, totally true!

WHOOPS

Just replying to this last post.

June 1 came and went. Athletes don’t know what they are racing for in terms of location and date of worlds and they don’t have clear terms and conditions if the worlds is unknown/TBD/Not contracted. One of the two would be helpful as the latter is publishable NOW without a locked in location.

This is what Microsoft Co Pilot managed to find (or not find)

:compass: What the evidence shows city‑by‑city

Below is a structured breakdown of every city where IRONMAN currently operates a full or 70.3 race, and whether any council minutes show Worlds‑related approvals.

:blue_square: Cities with no Worlds‑related council activity

Madison, WI

No meeting minutes, agendas, or news reports show any Worlds bid, contract, or road‑closure approval.

Chattanooga, TN

No council actions related to Worlds hosting. Only routine approvals for annual 70.3 logistics appear in local reporting.

Henderson / Las Vegas, NV

No current IRONMAN events and no council activity related to Worlds. Henderson’s last Worlds involvement was 2013.

St. George, UT

St. George has ended its IRONMAN partnership after 2025, making a 2027 Worlds bid impossible. (This is widely reported in local Utah news, though not captured in the search snippet.)

Other U.S. IRONMAN host cities (e.g., Oceanside CA, Galveston TX, Augusta GA, Boulder CO, Des Moines IA, etc.)

No publicly available council minutes show Worlds‑level approvals.

Having done the JB 2x and signed up for this year I don’t think it works for a IMWC. The location is very picturesque and iconic, it is “New york” and yes the course is flat and super fast, the main issue is there is no “town” where hotels are central and people will walk around feeling they are at en event.. Even in Nice which is quite large, you walk around and see athletes everwhere and know you are at a WC event.
That aside Corey (RD) is the most positive guy you can find and he would figure out building a “super village” at the beach that people would hang out at all day leading up to the race I imagine..

this is getting a little ridiculous. You’d think Ironman would at least say something in regards to the Worlds situation. Whatever it may be

Something as simple as

We have not announced the 2027 70.3 Worlds yet although the qualifying season will start on the weekend of July 4 globally. Athletes will be able to race for slots for the 2027 worlds, at the designated qualifier races and athletes will be awarded slots based on age graded performance at a TBD location and date. Athletes will have the option of:

  1. keeping their entry when the 2027 race is announced
  2. deferring one year to the already announced 70.3 Worlds in Nice in 2028
  3. using the slot for this year’s 70.3 worlds in Nice immediately upon receiving the slot based on performance in July or Aug of 202 6
  4. use the credit to 70.3 races of their choice globally if they are unable to use the entry for any of the above

On the Utah side of things, the cities of Provo/Orem have approved an Ironman event in 2027 at the request of Ironman. It is not known if this is a 70.3 or 140.6 but if you ask Chat GPT it seems to think it’s more likely to be a 140.6. It seemed to be a foregone conclusion that a 3-year deal was inked but this race has not been announced yet. Makes me wonder if they are working with Provo/Orem to change plans for 2027 and host 70.3 Worlds instead. If they did this the event would not be held in May and the swim venue would have to be Deer Creek Reservoir and not Utah Lake as originally planned but it could work. It would not be the first time that a Utah city steps in to save Ironman’s bacon!

Out and back on the bike down Provo canyon and then run up to Mt Timpanogos?

Just kidding, but that would be a fun swim bike run to do some day…

It doesn’t really add anything, but here’s the point at the Utah County Comission meeting where an Ironman event was approved for three years.

And here are some earlier minutes and a presentation at the Orem City Council for an Ironman event:

Using AI will only get you so far…

I’d be stoked on a new full in Havasu AND Utah.

If it’s a full in Utah, I’d bet it’s a 70.3 and a full at the same time with a multi loop course kinda thing. Everything I saw referenced the 70.3, but the council members refer to it all as “Ironman” like most people do.

it could be a 5k run ironman

Well as of Tuesday morning June 9 2026, it’s stuck at “access denied”, so it’s not even a 5km ironman

That was cool to watch. Very exciting prospect.

That “Algal Bloom at Utah Lake” needs a bit of explaining. Ew.
