Id be pretty disappointed if I realized that any local/global triathlete was doping. Their times are just average in all three disciplines, nothing special.
Any average cyclist/swimmer/runner can out cycle us/run us and swim us.
And thats why triathletes dont dope and if they do, they are pathetic individuals to start with.
but you still name 2 pro that have not tested positive …beke as been declare innoncent and Tim as a miss test, but not a positive test??? unless i mis something, let s be carefull in accusing people…
Why would you dope unless you were top 50 in this sport. There just isn’t enough money out there. An average age grouper is never going to be a pro, never going to come by any marketing money to even break even after buying the stuff. Now, if you are top 50 or a young aspiring age grouper who is on the cusp of turning pro, I can see that. But with so many average AG triathletes out there, I really don’t see this becoming a widespread problem in the sport as a recreational sport. It may turn into a problem on the professional side, if it isn’t already.
the reality is, there way more money on the age group field than on the pro field… most pro just survived from race to race and have a very cheap lifestyle crashing on someone s floor and driving old beat up car… no money in pro triathlon to make it worthy…
in the age group rank, i dont think many will get a doc and transfusion and all this, but i m 100% sure there is some illegal substance use at times by some exceptions people to performe better and beat someone…(a ego thing)
but i agree with you, the sport as some dopers but i do not think it s very widespreed but we need to make rules harder and test more…
NAS is doing doping controle for every ironman this year… that is a big step forward!

I know top AGers that do better in getting free equipment, travel, lodging expenses etc then 2 and 3rd tier pros. A top Ager will often garner more exposure for a sponsor then the 8-20th placed elite athlete at a race.
If AG’ers are willing to spend in the five figures to get a bike and race-wheels, powermeters and other gear, if they are willing to spend vacations and family time at training camps and travelling all over the world for races, if they are willing to add an extra monthly bill to pay a coach, then there are likely a couple of age groupers out there who are doping. Just becase you can’t buy it at your favorite tri store, or there is nobody bragging on Slowtwitch about it does not mean it is not happening.
“Why would you dope unless you were top 50 in this sport”
Walk into any gym in the country. All kinds of muscle boneheads who don’t compete in bodybuilding contests but still dope. I’d suspect in triathlon it’s a small percentage, but we’d be very naive to think that at least some AG’ers aren’t into substances.
If people are drafting on purpose and short cutting courses on purpose just to look better in results or possibly just for a crappy medal, why wouldn’t they go the next step? After all most everybody lives close to a GNC.

I know of two age groupers (mid packers) that pop sudafed pills prior to olympic distance races and several Ironman racers (none of them competitive) that use pain relievers (motrin, tylenol). I have no doubt that many age groupers with access to fancier stuff would not hesitate using it.
That is the stupidest reason I have ever heard. So you could say that IMers in swimming don’t dope, because others can swim each stroke faster (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle). Perhaps duathletes have never doped for the same reason you gave for triathlon. They might as well not even test an event like the decathalon.
