Why do my cross country team mates refuse to wear running shorts?

i’m the only kid on my cross country running team that wears running shorts. all the other guys wear boxers/compression shorts under baggy basketball shorts. even for racing, they wear boxers under the shorts…which already have liners.

WHY??? i can’t see how they can stand this

pussies.

for years I wore briefs underneath running and cycling shorts. Fortunately I was enlightened and now go commando underneath. It is amazing how much more comfortable cycling is.

Are the guys unaware of the benefits, or is it possible that they think it isn’t cool to wear running shorts? They may be a little too “macho” to wear them.

They are insecure losers.

tell them to watch the Olympic Trials track meet on TV this weekend. See how many real runners in the 10km, 5km, steeplechase etc wear running shorts as opposed to boxers or basketball shorts.

I’ve noticed that more and more HS kids forgo the running shorts, especially since most XC teams in HS are made up of soccer, wrestling and basketball players just using XC to get in shape. I still see the true hardcore (real) runners in XC wearing the appropriate attire. Go with the running shorts and show your pride! At least the shorts aren’t like the ultra short ones my team wore in HS back in the late 80’s. It’s funny what was cool then, ultra short shorts and rockin’ mullets! :>

They’re insecure and buying into only one portion of the macho broham or hip hop culture.

Are you in High School? This is normal unless you’re school is contending for the state title every year. I rotated between a pair of Iowa Hawkeyes shorts and Villanova shorts…and I found a baggy pair of red shorts to race in so that they would match the uniform, and I wouldn’t have to wear the short ones. We had most the guys wearing boxers as well…I went with tighty whites to prevent chafing.

But really, I go with speedo’s under the running shorts. That liner does nothing to stop everything down there from bouncing around.

Somehow I doubt very much that a bunch of highschool XC runners are doing it because Lance does it…

Buy them all a pair of these Brooks “Element Notch Shorts”. They’ve got compression briefs built in. They’re awesome.

I’m gonna agree with Khai on this.

Actually, in college one of my Mid-D Teammates regularly wore AND-ONE Basketball shorts during practice. My teammates and I would regularly would Razz him about this, calling him ghetto blaster and other stupid nicknames. Well, for one of our brutal 800 workouts, we were scheduled to run 5x400s at 60-55. This was truly a gut wrenching workout. On the last one, we went out hard and clipped my foot and stumbled on the inside of the track, losing valuable distance. With 50 meters to go, I am rigging badly, and hear footsteps coming in behind me. I look to the side and him loping past me in big baggy shorts , as if on a sunday stroll. He simply says AND-ONE as he passes me. I could never really make fun of his shorts after that.

I coach High School Cross Country, none of my athletes wear B-Ball shorts, or long soccer shorts. We talk at the beginning of each season about the proper attire for running.

They are uncomfortable with their sexuality and think that other might call call out their masculinity. Chances are that they can’t back it up.

There’s no doubt that kids nowadays have more sexuality/gender/body hangups that at any other time since the Victorian era. I really don’t get it.

Who cares what a kid is wearing when they run? The only insecurity I see is from the people who feel others have issues for not wearing what they want them to wear.

AND 1!..hahaa thats a good story right there. I had some And 1 gear, i’m not proud of it, but I did.

I’m totally sure that it must be because baggy shorts look really cool with shaved legs! :-^

I hate wearing baggy shorts to run in, show them light shorts and spandex and they’ll see the light.
