Where's Lori?

Whatever happened to Lori Bowden?? After watching the coverage of this year’s Ironman Hawaii, I couldn’t help but wonder what happened to her. She seems to have fallen off the radar! :frowning: Sorry if I’ve missed something, but besides having a baby, did she just retire completely and disappear, or what? She was always one of my favorites among the women… She could definitely compete with today’s athletes. What’s she doing these days?

She went on with her life. There is a whole world outside triathlon, you know…

Blasphemer!

One of my all time favorites as well, I understand she’s alive and well on Vancouver Island.

Ha! Fair enough, Paolo, as my life has taken a similar turn (mostly due to injuries). I hope she’s doing well in her family life, though, but have to admit missing the spark she added to the sport.

Last time I saw and talked to her was a few years ago at the Oliver (BC) Half. She was happy being a mom and had started coaching.

It was a pretty legitimate question - not sure why you had to flame the guy like that. I’m pretty sure he knows there is life outside triathlon

If you consider my post irrelevant, how do you consider yours?

“I’m pretty sure he knows there is life outside triathlon”

BTW - her ex husband Peter Reid has also moved on. Flying airplanes last time I heard.

I didnt say it was irrelevant. If I had thpught it was irrelevant I wouldnt have bothered to comment. I thought it was a bit harsh and for no apparent reason. I guess a momentary burst of compassion for the OP combined with temporary boredom conspired to give me cause to take up my ‘pen’ as it were.

If you consider my post irrelevant, how do you consider yours?

If his response to your irrelevant post is irrelevant, how do you consider your irrelevant response to his irrelevant response to your irrelevant response?

Irrelevant!

That was redundant.

.

saw her volunteering at national long-course champs in victoria back in '05 or so . . . she did my buddy’s bodymarking. was very cool, low-key, ego-free . . . and busted her butt volunteering. i think after she and peter split up she got together with someone in the tri business, had a child, and is happily doing her thing on the edges of the tri scene.

Lori Bowden … hmmm … wasn’t she on the tri mag cover naked somehow painted black with some really ugly hairstyle?

She could definitely compete with today’s athletes. What’s she doing these days?

Maybe and maybe not.

The Pro Womens race at IMH and the other big competitive IM races these days is different, than when it was a full-on mass start race for everyone when Lori Bowden was at her best. The separate starts, the smaller field really isolates the slower swimmers and gives a big advantage to the stronger faster women swimmers who can swim with the top Pro men.

By contrast in the old mass start days, the slower swimming women had a very rough time of it during the swim. However, then then had the advantage of riding with strong age-group men. Not saying these Pro women, were drafting, but there is a BIG advantage to riding legally with other strong cyclists, vs. completely on your own solo, just looking up at the open road.

Ironically it was Lori Bowden who was campaigning for the separate Pro start. I know Lori well and with all due respect she was not that strong a swimmer and she depended on coming back into the race with a fast bike and then really ramping it up with often the fastest run split.

How would she have done in the new start format? Hard to know, but what she saw out on the race course, and the strategy that she would have had to employ would have to be different, than when she was racing at her best years ago.

It’s a viscous cycle.

Slowman - I think that would make for a great Slowtwitch interview. Any chance?
