One of my all time fav ironman athletes.
In 1997 when my ex-wife worked for Nike she was helping Lori a bit on the side with a few things and we were in Hawaii for our honeymoon. I remember driving around the course with the Victoria Half Iron race director Norm, Dave and Kendra (Kendra has passed away since that day) who were all friends of Lori’s and Peter. Running with Canadian flags up the road at the turn to Hawi and then heading back down to the finish in time for Norm to hand Heather Fuhr a nice big Canadian flag to carry to the finish. That was the year that Peter finished 4th and Lori finished 2nd.
Hours after both had finished we were hanging out just outside the ABC on Ali’i drive when Norm went in to grab some beers and the 5 of us (Peter, Lori, Norm, EX and I) just sitting there drinking and cheering on the other athletes. I remember Lori turning to me to see how my day went and asking about what we did all day chasing them around the course and hanging out with her friends. Here is this amazing athlete that just finished in 2nd place asking me how my day went. Just blew me away!
She was one of the most down to earth athletes I have ever had the pleasure to meet.
Ran into her years after that at the Victoria Half Iron when she was a mother and she had the biggest smile on her face and said she just loved being a mother.
