I was looking on Amazon to buy a flashlight and quite a few are described as “tactical flashlight”. Sounds kinda militaristic to me. What does that mean?
And BTW, any recommendation? Looking for something with about 1200 Lumen, easy to hold.

It’s a flashlight made by a flashlight company that hired a marketing company that told it the phrase “tactical” would sell more flashlights.

If you want easy to hold- why not just get a headlamp? I have not used an actual flashlight in decades. Most things you are doing after dark are better with two free hands.

WITH accessories! Go big or go home! It IS “better” than the $100 mini-monster, BUT, the $100 mini-monster is my favorite. That said, if being used on the water, yeah, that $400 flashlight (with accessories) is worth it.

Tactical flashlight can mean it’s a piece of crap dressed up to look like something vaguely military. Or it can mean the light is made of higher standard metal, is less susceptible to crushing, is watertight, might have features like various strobe flash patterns or different color filters, usually higher output, might have features like an end cap button, etc.
I think the tactical flashlight has a CREE LED bulb and can be a spotlight or a floodlight. It makes all other flashlights obsolete. I gave my dad one and he loves it–not this one from amazon, but they all function alike.

You cannot go wrong with Nitecore. Just go to Amazon and search for Nitecore flashlights. Then pick the one within your lumens and cost.
