Could you share what wheels or what were the internal widths?
My current hypothesis is that 21mm internal width wheels are optimized for 24-25mm tires. And 23-25mm internal width wheels are optimized for 28mm.
Just talking crr, when you optimize for a given road (28mm will have lower pressure than the 25), the rolling resistance is roughly the same between a 25 and 28. That is as long you don’t have any pressure limitations.
Any chance you are testing the Black Bibs TT suit? I know it’s all super individual, but, for $150 it looks like some “cheap” speed for my monthly series.
21mm internal and 23mm internal.
the bigger question is if the 28mm on the 23mm inner actually provides better RR and if so, on what kind of surface. I had previously road tested RR on good roads and optimal pressure on each did not provide overall improved performance.
No it is not Black Bibs. In other threads, Jeroen (@anon62099856) spoke about some clothing he had been sourcing so he sent me a bunch of suits. He had some suits with very specific fit characteristics like big shoulder/small waist that my test subject was looking for. I am not sure to what extent he wants to reveal details, so he can chime in.
That’s a great setup. I’m looking at a P-Series now as well and was going to set it up with that same cockpit. I just ordered the base bar and torn between the 52 ASC extensions and the Pro. Are you running Sram or Shimano? I plan to use Shimano and want to completely hide the cables, is that possible?
I am coming off a new Speed Concept that I just can’t get feeling good on. Had a P5 before that which was good but I prefer the cockpit freedom of the P-Series and I think I can build a much comfier bike than the SC which for me will be faster!
I will know better next weekend with the 2 bikes side by side. My early assessmet is the 52ASC will allow for more adjustment. I am struggling to find a BTA solution for the Pro. I have a funny feeling I will end with the Pro and he will take the 52ASC.
Sram. I haven’t put the Ultimate on yet. I want 2 races with previous cockpit in the books. I am wondering about rear brake cable, worst case it will be slightly visible.
I am looking forward to have the 2 bikes side by side, all the bits and pieces (on order)
The P Series currently has the Aeria basebar and ASC43 extensions. i did benchmark this against a bike 3x it’s price and it was a tie, although it’s almost impossible to get both bikes identical. Fit was identical.
This is brilliant! I have long preferred Shimano on my TT bike because I hated the clunky blips on the base bar. But that grip simulates good integration. I also love Shimano’s automatic FD shifting for TT, which SRAM now does. I will highly consider SRAM for my next TT bike.
Have you considered throwing a better cockpit on your Speed Concept? It works great with the TR alpha one and even better with the new Alpha prime. Definitely the optimal speed concept setup.
It’s funny because me it’s all about CDA, micro watt savings…I am a weenie.
My buddy it’s comfort, staying cool (he overheats easily), smooth ride on brutal roads (IM Canada). But he is happy to save the 15-20 watts while meeting his criteria.
One reason I am happy we will both end up on PD is I know the extent they safety check them. Based on recent data on this, I think we sometimes neglect this. We need more visibility on this.
That’s great. Thanks for all the info! I think the Pro extensions would allow me to run the cables down through the base of the pads and then internally but like you, I’d have an issue fitting a BTA I think.
Hi, yes I looked at that option as well and had everything picked out (I already use the full TriRig BTA elevator and cages so it would have been a clean setup) but in the end realized I just don’t love the bike!
Why not replace the wired blips to the wireless blips, a small investment and no wire hassle any more and no blip box. Was the wired stuff default on the Ventum?
