Let’s get a little more action in here. What’s everyone riding, and where?
I’m on a Turner Czar, Turner RFX, and GT Xizang 29 (along with roadies and tri bikes) riding in west GA/Atlanta. I build all of mine from bare frames, I’ve built a baker’s dozen or more over the past 25 years.
Also old and fat. Used to race now and then back in La, getting back into triathlons after 15 years off.
The Turners sound fun, the GT sounds badass! I also like building 'em up from the frame.
Current rides are a Wilde Supertramp (rigid 29er with a dropper) and Wilde Rambler (all-road/gravel). I can cover pretty much all the terrain I like with these two (front range of Colorado: paved roads, dirt roads, paths, double track, single track). If I was going to drive to trails I’d want a suspension bike, but for riding from home (so true singletrack is maybe 25% at most) this works great.
Those are both “dream build” bikes that have occupied a lot of space in my day dreams! Very happy for you and smiling that someone else gets it. That being said, I’m pretty sure that would make you a Yeti ARC nut too…which is where I settled (if only it could have been the 45yr anniversary model). The champagne mount is my go-to ride for all things mountain and Salt Lake. I also work a lot in AZ and have my “beater” BMC two-stoke there in order to keep the legs busy…here’s a shot of the Yeti.
Refurbished the Trek 850 Antelope mountain bike i bought in 1992. Steel frame. Had to replace the derailleurs, headset, bb, and brake levers and shifters. Kept it a 3x7 drivetrain. I decided to not go with a modern groupset. Still has original wheels. Put a Brooks B17 saddle on it and some Profile bar extensions. It’s heavy! But it is a nice solid ride for what i need, and i didnt break the bank in getting it going again.
I’m looking at maybe building up a Lynskey some time in the future, to get a lighter bike that is better for hilly and mountain routes.
I’ve spent far too much money on mountain bikes in the last 18 months, but it is what I spend most of my time doing!
The enduro bike (170-170 travel) is a Nukeproof Mega with Sram XX, a Push 11-6 coil and a Vorsprung Smashpot in the Zeb.
The XC (120-115) is a Canyon Lux Trail with XTR throughout.
Love them both! Just spent 4 weeks in BC with the XC bike at Squamish and Vancouver Island and want to go back with the big bike now! Will add some photos at some point.
Looking to get a Canyon Lux WC CF 7 in January and move into XC racing and Xterra. Road cycling is too dangerous in my area so after 32 yrs of road tris I am trying something new and can not wait. Anyone have experience w/ this bike.?
Was a bit (a lot) underbiked on this ride. Thinking of getting an XC like the specialized epic to hit some of this more rugged terrain I find myself on a lot.
I’m a big fan of Otso! I have their waheela and fenrir titanium that I can put a 120mm suspension fork on! I also have an spez epic and a salsa Cassidy
A pink Lauf Seigla with the grit fork - primarily in the Santa Monica mountains. The fork was overkill until the recent rains, but now the trails have gotten more interesting and I’m appreciating the fork + 50mm tires.
These are my 2 gravel rides. The 3T is a few years old, but still rides great. I also swapped out the Zipp 303’s off the 3T & put some HEDs on it. The Cervelo Aspero gets the majority my rides, it rides so nice and I can take it anywhere. My Canyon Aero Road & Pinarello F5 haven’t gotten much attention lately…oh well.
Moved to Bend, Oregon from NC to ride more bikes. Got an Allied Able on 2.2 RaceKing’s and I absolutely love it. Hoping to do some gravel racing next year. I was getting a little bored with the constant triathlon training. Needed to change it up.
