Weekly Accountability Thread: 20 Jan Edition

How are you? How was your week? What are your goals for the coming week?

Thanks for getting us started Chowders, straight back at ya with the questions.

Rest week is over and test week is here. The work travel last week was due to a new project that I’m on for the next 14ish months, so after two days of hardcore people-ing, I spent the rest of the week craving quiet time. I also went to my first PWHL game while away but skipped out early when it got past my bedtime.

This week, the goal is not to overthink the testing and to just dive in.

L arm surgery fri 1/24 in the PM

Last week was good, continuing prep weeks learning to swim and lifting. Nowhere near fast, but finally doing 200-300 meters in a set.

Visiting family in NYC and ran a lap of prospect. We were pretty jealous of all the crit teams out practicing.

This week is going to be limited but I want to get at least one swim and one bike session in, before skiing all next weekend.

Last week was a mixed week of training but still solid. Got my 10k of swim done, with shoulder feeling good. Run was curtailed to 25k (missed 1 planned 12k run) as my calf was a bit tight on the side of the recent achilles problem - think being conservative paid off as it seems ok now. Did a little more biking to make up for less run: ~6.5hrs. Was the final week of 3 month winter strength block and called it quits after 2 of 4 planned sessions - was mentally done and it allowed a few days to absorb the work so all good - I made a lot of progress with the block so please with how that’s gone.

Having run niggle led to a rethink about my running plan. I’ve sketched out a new plan which is more conservative (basically running the same volume for 3 weeks in a row, then slightly reducing for a week and then increasing the volume for a 3 week block (slightly higher than the previous 3 week block), and repeat) - I’ll try that for a few months and see where I can get to.

This week is the first week of 10 weeks of general base work. Strength training is reduced to maintenance mode, a little more SBR volume and a bit of intensity sprinkled here and there. That will take me up to 6 weeks away from first race and 10 weeks away from first ‘A’ race.
