Pretty much played out the way I thought it would, way lower TSS than hoped for, sometimes thatās just what happens, and Valentineās and a snow storm collaborated this time.
Swimming felt a little bit better on Saturday.
Getting over a head cold and sleeping tonight, and then getting back to it; going longer this week, which should be good. Targeting a TSS of 750.
Plan is probably a sweet spot workout or two on the bike this week and if the weather cooperates, maybe do my favorite 10 mile run Saturday. Adding a snorkel and trying to swim just a bit faster to see if I can make some of the stuff Iāve been working on click.
Disrupted training last week. Stayed up to watch SuperBowl (3:30am finish) and later in the week had some ādigestive upset.ā Swim: 9k; Bike: 4hrs (missed a key session); Run: 33k; got some strength work done but missed some too. And didnāt manage the Parkrun as it was cold and threatening to rain and Iām not about that life. Early days but Iām on track with my goal of swimming 500,000m this calendar year (which is a decent step-up for me).
Still sloppy on reading phone in bed, but that stops now!
Entered an early season, local sprint tri race - so thatāll be my first race of the season on 13 Apr. I joke with my friends about that being the race where I turned pro (won Ā£10 and a mug for coming 3rd in my AG)!
This coming week is 5th week of 10 weeks general base work: 11k swim, 6hrs bike, 40k run, and my strength work.
Have a great week everyone!
@PatrickCleary gald you r on the āgetting overā part of cold. re: swim felt better satā¦ gets the snot outā¦
@Chowders that first money win is awesome. Mine was a 15k, age 18. My most fun $ race was a $75 for whomever was in the lead 1/2 way at 1/2 mary so it was do you race the 1/4 mary or the 1/2 or both? I went for both and got 2nd at the halfway ($0) and 2nd OV ($75). uniqueā¦
goals from last week
313 next week (palindrome), 310 en route ā met
do best I can w cals ā I did my best
goals this week
320 next week (315 en route, the 5s feel big)
build back up to 1600 cal/day, could only get self to eat 1100-1400 last week, drs appt today and was down 0.4 lbs which is kinda stable but kinda not (my weight #s tend to be very consistent) and the weight # is worrisome if you look at the bmi / it is lower than this summer when I lost periods. she also reminded me nutrition helps healing so I need to keep that in mind (yes I know you all have told me that, I need to hear it lots apparently). Anyway she may have gotten my head straighter
thx for putting up w me.
@Chowders if u r in bed reading this on phone, put phone away!

314 days in a row total
Rough week last week with three snowstorms in 8 days. More snow in those three storms than we had ALL of last winter so outdoor riding feels like itās never going to get here. Thereās a church I drive past on the way to work that has a big signboard at the entrance and it says āWill whoever is praying for snow please STOPā.
The Saturday workout continues to be poop but I think itās in my head so hoping that this weekās recovery week works as a reset.
My mouth is continuing to heal so Iām hoping to get a gold star when I have my follow-up in 8 days.
@Dr_Tigerchik I hope the doctorās words stick and your build back works!
how is your mouth feeling as it heals?
Putting it in spoiler tags so that people who might be squeamish donāt need to read about it but in general, mouth is much better and Iām slowly returning to a more normal diet.
There were two main spots, the harvest site on my palate which was covered in surgical glue and the tooth that got the gum graft which had dissolvable stitches and actual sutures.
The glue didnāt hurt but the texture felt awkward and in the day or so before it fell out last week the edges felt really ridged. I was happy when it fell out because even though I could feel the little divot where theyād harvested from, at least the texture was more normal. This week, the divot has been filling up.
The tooth where they did the graft is feeling much better. The inflammation is down, the bit of the dissolvable stitch that I could see came out yesterday and the actual suture ends which are sticking out arenāt bothering me as much anymore (probably because the swelling is down so theyāre not actually poking anything anymore). Iām still not allowed to bite on that side of the mouth but Iām getting pretty good at chewing on one side only. It just takes me longer to eat.
good 2 hear! thx for being sensitive w spoilers. I did read, glad things are improving in terms of overall and the details about things improving.
Are you in the Northeast USA as well? At least it looks like metro Boston wonāt get too much more snow.
Canada - Toronto area.

315 days in a row of healthy copingā¦ 45 weeks
1500 ish calories yesterday (970 + Indian food as we went out) so did a good job building back to the 1600 target (aim is to build back)
am v depressed today
@Dr_Tigerchik hope the Indian was fantastic. Reminds me we need to try the place down the street.
Iāve gotten to a weights session and a swim session so far this week and a powermeter installed in the TT bike. Hit 2000m in my swim tonight and outside of a cramping foot, it felt like I could go further, that leg is finally feeling like I wonāt get out of the water in dead last.
Run tomorrow evening before dinner with friends. Might even get out on the actual road.
King right there
Kudos on you
On my side, canāt wait for winter to be over so I can ride outside again!
Otherwiseā¦ meh at least itās going. Motivation is a bit low though
Seems like everyone here has had a little bit of an up and down week or two.
@PatrickCleary congrats on swim progress
@aedhana I too long for warmer days ā¦ also āmotivation follows actionā (not the other way around)
@Dr_Tigerchik hang in there kid - sending supportive vibes and a virtual hug ā¦ seems like youāre typing a bit more so hoping thatās positive for wrist recovery?
@Scheherazade glad to hear mouth on the mend - I think these types of procedures maybe have a higher energy / recovery cost than we realise so not surprised to hear not all of your sessions are great right now
Iām having a good week - phone has been put in itās place (i.e. downstairs at night) and so Iām getting a bit more sleep (which is the point). Best swim for ages this morning so feeling happy about that.
Yup, I am also ready for winter to be over. This was my street a couple of days ago, and now itās snowing again.
