Weekly Accountability Thread: 10 Feb Edition

On behalf of DrT:

How are you? How was your week? What are your goals for the coming week?

Pretty good training last week. 11k swim, 5hrs bike (longer ride cut a bit short as was tired), 37k run + strength work done. Achilles and shoulder were good all week. First time in about 2 years that I haven’t had a tendon injury one place or another!

Didn’t do a good job not taking phone to bed. Suspect some kind of weird self-sabotaging going on, as training is good just now.

This coming week is 4th of 10 weeks general base work, so it’s a similar plan again for the week (10k swim, 6hrs bike, 33k run, strength work). Except I won’t hit the bike plan as I stayed up to watch the SuperBowl and as a result skipped a bike session which would otherwise have been this morning. And as it’s the 4th week, my run volume reduces slightly (to be 100% of past 6 weeks average) and I’ve got a parkrun in there for a little test.

Have a great week everyone!

Enjoy the parkrun! Do you usually do it every week or just when you need to benchmark?

The oral surgery had ups and downs. Not being able to eat normally is taking a toll and probably contributed to some poor workouts and restless sleep. Coach has given me a few easier days to start the week (and yesterday’s long ride got changed to a rest day) so hopefully by the time things pick up again on Wednesday I’ll be closer to normal performance.

Into week two of base (TSS goal of 680) here in what’s going to be a busy week. Lifted at lunch and I’m going to need to find at least one more time this week, but I’m seeing gains, and might actually not have flappy sleeves on aero jerseys this year.

Hoping for three swim sessions this week if I can convince the GF we should stop on our way to the mountains on Saturday. It still feels like the obvious place to look for time in a race. 3min/100m isn’t setting me up for a great race. Tonight is going to be more technique practice, trying to actually get breathing well.

Running will probably be treadmill intervals, but at least the garage now has internet, so Zwift might be in the cards, probably focusing on mix of cardio base and sweet spot blocks to start building back some power.

Also, tri bike shoes show up tomorrow to start drilling for transitions.

@Chowders yay 0 tendon issues!
@Scheherazade hope surgery recovery progress is linear and up

I’ve done about 3 in my entire life! But I’m planning to do more often this season as I’m doing more short course races than in the past few years.

Yes - you’ll need a bit of spare energy for your body to recover. I had oral surgery last year (bone grafts and the like) - you have my sympathy, it’s not nice!

Crushed the Oman 70.3 in the weekend with a 12 second PB. Considering my previous PB was on a stupidly flat course and Oman is anything but flat, I’ll take it as a massive win.

Unfortunately, I’ve cooked my body and the cold that has been annoying me for the last couple of weeks has come in with some serious vengeance.

pr!!!

The surgical glue that was used for my procedure came off right on schedule last night (7 days later) so part of my mouth is feeling a little more normal. Really looking forward to the stitches coming out - another two weeks to go!

@Kingy congrats on the PR - I hope you’re starting to recover from the sickness!
Keep up the good work @Dr_Tigerchik
