Varia Mount?

I just picked up a Varia 515 (BTW on sale now for $149, in case anyone is looking).
I am wondering what are peoples favorite mount for a D shaped seat post?

KOM Mount. A bit pricey but works great

I use one of these: https://concentriccycling.com/pages/seat-post-mounts

See if you can find one for your bike.

I’d just use the mount that came with it. Lots of people complain about them, but I’ve got thousands of miles on it with no problems. I think for my bike with a d-shaped seat post (giant propel rim brake) I just used the rubber insert with a gentle curve

I have a Specialized branded saddle, so I picked up the MagCAD 3d printed mount that mounts under the seat. I have about a week on it and am happy with it. MagCAD has a lot of other types of 3d printed mounts for the Varia also.

My understanding… the higher up, the more visible to traffic. Love this one from Amazon:

The aero and D-Shape mounts that come with the unit have worked fine for my bikes, but on a round seatpost it’s annoying. I’ve never lost one, but the round mount doesn’t give me any confidence.

The K-edge saddle rail mount has worked well, but you can’t run a saddle bag or BTS bottles.

i bought a saddle rails mount from amazon
Cestbon Radar Bike Mount for Garmin Varia Rtl510 515 TL300 and Garmin Varia Rearview Radar Tail Light. Saddle Bicycle Mount
the arm lets the radar sit JUST far enough out there so I can jam a seat bag under/behind it.
I do like having the radar high just below saddle - i do feel it picks up better than close to frame on seat post.
on a separate note - i do wonder what high summer grasses on the side of the road do to radar ability to sense vehicles around curves.
separate note 2 - the saddle specific mounts (bontrager/specialized) look even better for more room for a seat bag. My wife and I are seeing if her friend can 3d print us something for our smp selle italia saddles that have a bracket on back of saddle. 149 is good for the varia.

I have a concentriccycle mount for mine too - great quality and design - much more of a solid mount, plus its so much clean looking too
.

I picked up a 3D printed mount through Shapeways that was custom designed to fit the seat post; it works well.

These are nice post-specific option: https://neat-components.com/collections/frontpage

On my back up bike that has an aero seat post I just use the stock Garmin mount with the correct rubber piece for an aero post. Has worked fine since 2017. It works!

I bought the Varia tether for like 8 bucks on Amazon. Gives me piece of mind about a 200 dollar device hanging off the back of my bike from a rubber band.

I took a page off my MTB set-up & now strap tool, spare tube, & tire lever onto the base of seat tube. Cleaner.

On my D shaped post I ended up taking Sugru and molding it to fill in the included aero mount to the flat of the D shape on the seat post. It’s worked fine for 3 years and many miles.

I use garmin’s seat post mount. Not cheap, but I ride on rough enough roads to justify having a rock solid mount. Too many times I’ll hit a hard bump or some washboard in the road and it’ll turn sideways using the rubber band mount included in the package.

my under saddle bag has a reflective loop on the back. I looped a couple of O rings through it to the regular Garmin flat mount and it works very well. The D mount that came with it worked fine, but I always like it was pointing down too much.

I came here to say that if you have a bike they have one for…buy it. I have one on my road bike and it’s perfect. On my Speedmax I have a K Edge cap mount screwed into one of the holes in the seat post. The previously mentioned KOM BOA mounts are nice too.

I have the KOM Varia Mount on my D-shaped Ventum NS1 seat post, and it is just OK. The top boa loop slides up and off the mount body, so it looks so-so and does not hold as securely as I would like.

I contacted Ventum, and they said they are working with Concentric Cycling (link above) to get a mount created. So, I periodically check on their site for progress. The minute I see a mount for my bike, I will ditch the KOM mount.

Mine works fine to.
