Watching the market is feeling like during COVID when I was refreshing the screen on the death count. Except I’m not in danger of dying or losing my shirt.
This is less scary than COVID or 2008 at least for me. The issue is known and could in theory be reversed in one minute (which is part of why it’s so maddening).

That is like saying the last election in theory should have been easily won by the democrats. The people pulling the levers (trump and his advisors/rural red and swing state voters) have absolutely no idea what is actually best for the country and have a tendency to do things simply because someone said something they thought sounded cool even if it had no basis in the actual truth.
Which is actually still less scary to me than 2008 and 2020
Interesting perspective. This is far scarier to me because in both prior cycles you had a lot of rational people working hard to ameliorate the issue. Here we’re reliant on DJT changing his mind and humiliating himself. There’s something uniquely unnerving to most people about being helpless, and we weren’t helpless in the GFC or Covid.

I think maybe you need to get your brain around the fact that Trump has absolutely no guardrails at this point. There are no adults in the room. Everyone around him simply says “Yes sir” to whatever he wants.
That is no bueno. Trump’s brain is addled at best, demented at worst.
This could end up being much worse than COVID. It could all stop tomorrow. Nobody but the addled brain moron knows. And he probably doesn’t know… that would mean that he has a plan (which he almost certainly does not).

We appear to be in an age where unpredictability - especially of the sort that keeps Trump front and centre of the news cycle - is the only certainty.
That said, I’d say the only safe prediction one can make right now is that the tariffs won’t all be undone in a minute.

I learned in 08- that it is NOT the real economic circumstances that are the problem.
But the panicked way that the markets and the economy reacts.
Markets are much calmer than the worst of 08.
The tariffs could be reversed.
But Trump cannot be uncrazied.
And the removal of checks and balances continues.
Yep.
HIs ego and being a strong man is quickly putting him into a very small corner.
His ego cannot back down, his brain cannot understand other countries will not bow to him. He will keep putting up higher tariffs.
This could all work out in his favor, but the odds are shrinking by the day as the damage increases.
This might also, be the nail in the coffin once more republicans speak out. People can only take so much.

This is not solely a trump problem.
The problem here is the GOP. They could fix this today if they wanted to. But they don’t.
