Tririg Ultimate Scoops SL - anyone using a set?

I interesting! An in between would be good. The SL is pretty narrow and the standard ultimates are monsters.

From the looks of it, it’s a slightly different shape and more narrow (2 bolts instead of 4 bolts). The newer SL ones have the neoprene all the way to the end, and there looks to be a different clamping mechanism to the bar that gets inserted

Though I’m curious if that’s it, since there’s a black Friday sale on the older model.

I’d need to add some stack vs my current setup. While we’re here, does anyone know if TriRig sells anything to add some stack under the cups?

@timbasile the scoops ultimate SL have been available for a while now. In the video above they mention something completely different which I’d personally be very interested in.

I love my scoops signature. It’s a nice medium sized scoop. If an Ultimate (full length ) version was available in that same relative width, I’d have a pair on order!

My wife has the original Ultimates. They are also nice but a bit too wide…and actually a bit too long (for her). I suppose I could order a set of Ultimate SL for her and use the Ultimate on mine for the time beings.

Does anyone know if the length is the same on them both?

Off the top of my head, the SL are about 3cm shorter than the originals. The originals were definitely too long for some riders but the SL are are pretty much an improvement across the board. Only downside is fewer columns of mounting holes but if needed there are wingspan extenders for that.

Thanks for the reply! I’ll measure the original Ultimates on my wife’s bike tomorrow and report back. Silly me…didn’t think of that.

Then we’ll know for sure.

I have the Signature Closed back and am happy with the diameter of the scoops. I’m a rock climber though, so I can’t imagine the Carbon SL being comfortable. I have a solid locked in feeling now, but at 87mm compared to 95mm diameter, I imagine the carbon SLs would be too restrictive.

I received a response from TriRig and they are NOT releasing a new version of the scoops in near future. So whatever Nick was hinting at in the video was either super too secret, or just a longer term easter egg.

Fwiw, I measured the OG Ultimates and they are 360mm in length. So confirmed 30 mm shorter as mentioned above.

Agree it’s a whole that would be great if filled.

The ones Nick mentioned in the video don’t appear to replace the ultimate SL scoops. They seem more for folks who don’t want the full forearm coverage and are wider (less tight of a fit) compared to the ultimate SL. Likely cheaper too. Seems more like an additional offering than replacing something that already exists.

Here is a short flick of my Ultimate SL mounted on my Argon 18 E119 Tri+ from yesterdayĀ“s ride, last meters on the first small climb that I hit 10 mins from home. Breathing like somebody who had a bit too much turrón over Christmas … sorry :see_no_evil:

Looks beautiful!!

Thanks mate - the Catalan ā€œBig Surā€ called ā€œCostesā€ just between Sitges & Castelldefels, south of Barcelona. Not really cool, due to crazy many cars, except really early on a Sunday morning

I d like to see your base bar looks interesting

@pk

Still ā€˜prototyping’ this setup, so bear with me on aesthetics for now, but basically cut a 6 mm Alu plate to carry the armrest. Sturdy enough and very little flex. Here are some shots:

That looks good, would you consider bringing the elbows in a bit tighter?

Thanks @Bryancd - appreciated.
My elbows are actually some 5mm higher than my old setup (that I raced IM Frankfurt on back in August of last year) and a tiny bit more narrow elbow-space (also 5mm)
I am not racing Ironman this year, (just HIMs) and I can easily be 2h in this position now, so unless somebody tells me that even higher/tighter would be even more aero, I don“t think I will change this setup much, fitting done by Pedro de Arriba (Movistar and many Spanish Pros)

Haven“t really tested this setup just yet, but my old setup/position gave me 40 kmh at 200-205w on flat, good tarmac, at 75kg test weight and all race setup (disc, aero suit, calf sleeves, helmet)

EDIT: I tried even more narrow elbows and that creates trouble in my neck/shoulders. I am quite broad over the shoulders and I have always had a wider elbow space :see_no_evil:

What type and thickness of AL did you use?

Here is a photo from Amazon (Europe) where I bought it:
6 mm and looks like the Alu quality is 5083
Set me back 14 euros and some metal work

6mm is enough ? i have done the same with 10mm, for about 5cm reach extender. And that is f**g heavy

6 mm is enough for me. I mean it does not flex. So unless this Alu totally gives in, its more than fine. Most of the weight is still closer to the elbow, so limited weight distributed outwards on the bars.
