Thoughts. (1)

Here are some things in my head. Read, ponder, discuss, ignore.

-Human life is cheap and we are comfortable with that.

-The left hates the right and the right hates the left more then either side love America.

-You be against the war and love, cherish and care for the troops but you can’t support them.

-No one can creat more fear then you creat for yourself.

"-No one can creat more fear then you creat for yourself. "

Very true… In fact we control what everything means to us individually.

Tibbs you ignorant slut.

Just kidding friend, I just love that line as a way to open a counterpoint.

-Human life is treated WAY too cheaply, and is made cheaper still when it’s costs are overlooked by those to score political points.

-I disagree. This is provable by many, many metrics. Off the top of my head and somewhat newsworthy to boot: AG nominee Janet Reno received not a single NO vote from Republicans, even though nearly all Republican senators disagreed with her policies. SC nominee Ruth Bader Ginsburg received not a single NO vote from Republicans, even though nearly all Republican senators disagreed with her policies. Did Ashcroft recieve the same consideration? Did Thomas? Bork? Hell Gonzales even faced a tough confimation.

-I thought it was ‘in’ to support the troops. Did I miss a memo?

-I agree. Unless you are part of a 2 or 3 man breakaway and there is 8km to go and you turn around and see the whole 150+ peloton getting larger and larger. Sometimes “Oh Shit” doesn’t do justice.

-Human life is cheap and we are comfortable with that. Sad but true unless it’s your life or the lives of those close to you.

-The left hates the right and the right hates the left more then either side love America. I think this hate thing is overblown. We have had opposing views on topics since before the creation of this country. Somehow we have managed to fight the British, Spanish, Germans, Italians, Japanese, Koreans and vietnamese as one country.

-You be against the war and love, cherish and care for the troops but you can’t support them. Funny I am against the war but support the troops, which means to me bring 'em back alive now.

-No one can creat more fear then you creat for yourself. So true.

We were a country divided when we fought the British and in Vietnam, IMO.

“Funny I am against the war but support the troops, which means to me bring 'em back alive now.”

You are a good human who wants the troops home and safe but to support the troops you must support the mission. The mission and the troops are one and the same.

Sorry. I was referring to the war of 1812 vs the British. You are so right. The rev war was far from one sided.

You are a good human who wants the troops home and safe but to support the troops you must support the mission. The mission and the troops are one and the same.

Wrong - that’s exactly what got the Vietnam vets spit on, people couldn’t seperate the troops and the mission.

Right- What got the Vietnam vets spit on was people taking their politics to seourisly and being ass holes. To the soldier the mission is what they are doing. If you don’t support the mission then how can you support the troops? For the mission to fail the troops must fail.

Why do you have a problem with this? Why can’t you say I love and care for the troops? Who do you have to say you support them?

“the mission and the troops are one and the same”

Ummmmm yeah.

I wonder if the people that seem to want to bring the troops home NOW have given consideration to the fact that many troops would like to see the mission finished. This is what they have trained for. If protecting our troops at all costs were to be the way the military operated, there would be no training and no point of even having a military. Yes there is risk involved in the armed forces, and of course EVERY life lost is tragic. The world keeps spinning.

If you are not fighting, supporiting the troops means:

  1. Sending mail and packages on a regular basis. Let them know someone cares about them back home and is paying attention.
  2. Keeping in contact with the spouse (if any) and helping out at home as much as possible.

Politics and debates about the vailidity of the war should not be a part of this conversation. The soldiers probably want to be home as much as must of us would like to bring them home. What is important is since they are stuck there at the present time, try to make the time as bearable as possible.

A very good point lost on so many. Its surprising that on a forum full of testosterone and competitiveness and I assume a whole lot of athletes, that some would say “bring the troops home now.” Do you train your ass off for a race only to quit in the middle because you are behind (Not that I think we are losing the war) or do you continue pushing on to finish what you started and trained for? Packing up and coming home now without fininshing this is tantamount to quitting. Quitting is not in my nature, racing, militarily or otherwise. Why would we just quit now?

Dumb analogy of the day award goes to…

Ok Matt what was wrong with that statement?

Nobody is claiming that we should be bringing the troops home “because we are behind” that is stupid as is the comparing of a war to a sports event or a hobby.

Nobody ever got killed or maimed because I slogged through a race on a bad day.

When did I say anything about being behind? Need meds? I got some.

my apologies I thought you were asking for an explanation of my response to Armytriguy.

It appears you have been hitting those meds pretty hard today…that or you’re typing with boxing gloves on.

In a triathlon, your objective is clearly marked - reach the finish line as fast as you can within the prescribed rules.

What is the objective in Iraq? How will we know when we have won?

Objective: confirm wmd status - done, none there

Objective: kick out a tyrannical dictator - done, turn him over for trial

Objective: fight terrorism - your headed the wrong way on the swim leg; head to Pakistan, Afganistan and Saudi and resume the race.

By questioning that last objective, am I now somehow not being supportive of the troops and downright unpatriotic?

Why is that a dumb analogy? Do you think soldiers want to quit? My point apparantly lost on you is we can’t just leave because soldiers are dying. We have to finish what we started. Sorry you don’t get it.
