From the tv snip in that link, it’s interesting about the claims on an attack being less likely than x.
I wonder if that’s just because most people aren’t likely to go swim in open water anyway? I live 10 mins from some of the best beaches you’ll find, yet I have not swum in them for easily over 10 years.
We have had two fatal shark attacks in a matter of weeks with people spearfishing. Let’s see that comparison of risk of death spearfishing vs risk of death hopping in a car. I don’t think ol sharkey gets as much of a pass as they make out.
ETA locally, since 2000 we have had 55 shark attacks leading to 23 fatalities. Nearly 1 fatality per year.
In that same time we have had approximately 4000 traffic fatalities. Or 154 per year.
As much as we are surrounded by water, I’d suggest there are at least 154 vehicle journeys as entries into water. That’s not even breaking it down into things like spearfishing, surfing or scuba diving, for which there’s almost a 2:1 car journey to start with.
PSA to parents of new drivers. Make sure they understand the difference between diesel and gas.
May seem obvious, but a neighbour of ours is facing a $3,000 repair bill after their daughter, who just got their drivers license, filled the tank of their new Genesis with diesel.
I’m also super confused that NO ONE checked the safety stuff and there were so many people involved…. unfathomable. Curious if they wanted to kill her, or if they were all under the influence of some substance that altered their behavior.
Yeah I don’t quite understand how this happened. It’s not like the rope broke or something malfunctioned. They just carried her up there and threw her off a bridge, no rope involved. How the fuck does that happen.
At least, if she didn’t know when she was being thrown off, it all happened way faster than she could probably process. I doubt there was even time to panic or understand what was happening. Poor girl.
Wow crazy story. You picked the right thread to post it–the random thread.
When the article mentioned custody, I wondered where that was going. I was glad to see that custody went to the birth parents. They look super happy so it has a great ending.
