It’s everyone’s favorite comprehensive bike gallery of the year. (Literally: this has been one of our top articles since we started doing this 20 years ago.) We’re looking at the gear of the top 15 professional men’s bike splits from the 2025 IRONMAN World Championships in Nice, France. Like with IRONMAN course records, we only track those of athletes who completed the entire course. That means you won’t see, for instance, Magnus Ditlev and his Scott Plasma. (If you want to see that bike, you can visit our pullout gallery from before the race here.)
A major trend of note was just how many pro men rode the Continental Grand Prix 5000TT TR tire. Multiple athletes made last-minute switches onto this tire. Of the top 15 bike splits, all but four of them used that specific tire. A couple of other athletes used other tires within the Continental product line. Nick Thompson was the lone holdout for a full set of wheels, riding Pirelli tires; you’ll spot one athlete who had different tire brands for the front and rear.
Of course, the other major trend is with aerobars continuing to evolve in shape. Just Matthew Marquardt had what you could call a “traditional” shape to his aerobars, but even they follow the seemingly standard “high hands” positioning.
