This past Saturday’s race in Kona completed the 2024 IRONMAN World Championships. In total, 25 age group champions were crowned between September’s women’s race in Nice, France and the October men’s race in Hawaii.
The United States and Switzerland led the way with producing four age group champions each. The USA brought home three women’s world titles and one men’s championship, whereas the Swiss team was evenly split in producing champions. Denmark rounded out the podium with three age group championships.
Other countries represented by winners are China, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, France, Finland, Belgium, and Estonia. France and Estonia are home to the respective woman and man top amateurs by time.

It’s only 3 data points so hard to reach a conclusion. One hypothesis is they were in their 20s and 30s when triathlon was predominantly a US sport, before Europe began to dominate. More European women in above 60 age groups in 10 to 15 years
Over 4 consecutive weeks this past summer he ran a 2:39 marathon, won an olympic distance race in 1:55, won overall title at a 70.3 in 3:58, and won the overall age group and was 10th overall including pros at another 70.3 in 4:08. At 47 that is extremely impressive.
My rear tire was flat when I got to my mine race morning. I think the bike stands they provided, if not snug on a wheel, would allow the bike to lean to the side causing the tire to separate from the rim slightly with tubeless tires allowing air to escape.
Yep. Those blocks can have some play on them, and it’s not unheard of for those to result in tire issues. We used to have the same thing happen at Rev3 a decade ago with tires notorious for sidewall cuts or pinch flats.
Security is pretty f’n tight at these races, plus there’s just a ton of media everywhere. I’d find sabotage to be highly, highly, highly unlikely.
