Rear only.
I wondered about this with Anne Haug rear flat out of T1 in Nice. All it would take is a small burr in the plastic stand and pulling the bike out in a hurry.
Burr in the stand, if it’s leaning the wrong way you could lose some tire pressure (or go completely flat like @Bryancd mentioned), loss of pressure + hitting the wrong thing causes Haug’s issue, etc.
Long way of saying that there’s too many plausible explanations for what happened to those two riders before you get to athlete sabotage.
True.
Athletes have been caught in acts of sabotage before though. Would be worth knowing if there are cameras on transition, or if they choose not to use them (to avoid the data requests).
@stevej
Is there a significant benefit over the hang-by-the-seat racks AGs generally have to use?
You can cram more bikes into less space with those racks vs metal ones.
I think there were more than 2 riders though. And they all happened to be in the same age group. Also sounds like it wasn’t just flat tires. I saw some comments about seat post issues.
Could be nothing. But it could be something.
I could never prove it but I believe my bike sabotaged back in 2017 along with a few others in my ag. It had all the same odd coincidences this does. It worked out though as the guy was caught for doping.
Yes years ago we had a great thread on here about a guy I actually knew as he was in AZ, young kid with pro triathlon aspirations, who sabotaged at least one competitor by throwing their running shoes into the bushes. Anyone remember that one?! LOL! His ST name is on the tip of my tongue…
This list is interesting and makes me wonder if Slowtwitch, with its (presumably) more US based audience places a higher value on Kona than would be true of the overall Global Triathlon community. Clearly Nice would be more convenient for the majority of the pointy end of the field.
Long time ago, there was a Danish Pro, who scattered pin nails on the bike course!
Talk about Monty Pythonish kinda sabotage!
He later on got busted for EPO…
their must be a CC camera of the pier that they could give for someone to look at for the offence.
Lets hope so they know who to blame for this.
