This was a well argued couple of posts, thank you very much Reece.
LCB and Knibb have to only validate correct?
Deron and Findlay have to qualify. Quite different.
LCB (and Haug and Sodaro who are not T100 obv) to validate (as 2019/2022/2023 IMWCs).
Rest have to qualify (the 70.3WC AQ/validation route has been excised from the exemption list).
Philipp: no validation required (same for Lange) so opens Roth option.
“Validation Race” means racing competitively and being an official finisher in a 2025 Pro field IM. (Note “official finisher” to avoid the Laidlow DQ imbroglio fail.)
I assumed that the delay wasn’t JG or LCB but finalizing the non hot shots and such. And they just announced the last two as the last “big signings” for clicks and whatnot?
My feeling is we can take off LCB from the Kona contender list for 2025 (maybe that’s not even her goal).
A minimum of five T100 races plus a validation full IM race + her injury background makes it look very unlikely for me.
Time will tell.
Happy for T100 to get her on board. Their crucial year is not 2025 but 2026 (better said getting a decent field for 2026).
If LCB toes the line, she is a contender in any race.
For evidence: multiple #2s at IMWC plus some fast Roths, amazing wire-to-wire win at 70.3WC St George 2021, her triumph at Kona 15 months ago and two T100 #2s last year (before the pivot to Nice).
On the flip side LCB has managed to start 4 Middle/long distance races each year for the last 4 years.
IMWC - 11 October: Haug, Sodaro, LCB, Philipp, Matthews, Knibb, Derron
Vancouver confirmed on 14-15 June.
But no date for Ibiza ((“September”), “tbc” for Las Vegas and “November” for Dubai.
Grand final?
(add T100 SF on 31 May)
Has Derron ever said she was trying to qualify for IMWC in 2025? If not, I doubt this will be the case. She’s still a short course athlete who does T100 and 70.3.
Could LCB defer her 2024 IMWC qualification/validation to 2025, justified by a legit injury (medical proof ?) on the day of the race ?
Quite a mix bag but it sounds from this thread IM have allowed AGs to defer in exceptional/discrete cases…

If that was an option - would take a lot of pressure off her calendar. Would love to see her do well in T100 and be fit come Kona.
Interesting question. I wouldn’t be surprised if she or her team floats that question to IM but IM will probably want her to do a full distance race rather giving her a free pass. She will probably show up in South Africa
I’m no doctor - but does the possibility that a lot of LCB’s injury problems ‘may have’ been linked to her celiac disease, only recently diagnosed, mean that she goes into 2025 with a new lease of life?
If they have that under control, does it allow the body to recover properly and allow her to compete fully across the season?
Perhaps you could share why every other competitor should have the disadvantage (well you see it like that) of only racing one IM in their build up to Kona. LCB has chosen to race the T100 Tour. Perhaps we could suggest wildcards to Kona/Nice for Olympic medallists as well? What do you think?
And when validation was not required for three IMWC’s post Covid, some of those with an AQ chose to race Roth instead of an Ironman. A ‘win’ for IRONMAN? I don’t thinks so: hence revised exemption regime:
Occam’s razor says that world class swimmer turned runner, almost always gets injuries leading up to the time that their bodies finally harden up to gravity. It is almost a rite of passage for top swimmers who never ran to have to work through all sorts of injuries. Your aerobic system can handle huge loads of speed and mileage on the roads, but your skeletal system needs time to catch up. And patience is not a virtue of the elite of our sport…
Also celiac disease, undiagnosed, prevents the gut from absorbing a lot of nutrients from foods. She will be so much healthier.
Great points. I’ll add in a tangent re: celiacs to point out the root cause is likely not just gluten but various chemicals priming our body to have an autoimmune response to gluten.
He’s an interesting report:
And it seems likely it’s not just that one additive sin to singled out but others as well. Chemicals like sodium benzoate is ubiquitous in everything from soap to packaging to nearly all foods. And incidentally causes inflammation allergic responses - more severe in some than others.
I hope a simple whole foods diet with reduced processed foods can help LCB. Soapbox reminder that the simple calorie counter eat all the processed junk cause a carb is a carb and a calorie is a calorie nonsense that some people like to spout off isn’t so simple at all.
Qatar will host the T100 Triathlon World Tour Championship Final
The finale to the 2025 T100 season will take place in Doha on 11-13 December as part of a five-year deal.
Comments:
- “Spain” not Ibiza in September
- Date for LLV not set (not even the month!)
- Need to add SanFran in there on 31 May.
- Nine, and that’s yer lot.
So you think they forgot San Fran or is it gone
I swear I heard a podcast implying that San Fran wasn’t happening…I feel like it was TTL…
PTO and their dates / locations keeps being a mess.
How many of the listed venues initially had different dates?
2, 3 or 4?
Great news! Its going to look brilliant on tele, having grand finals with a hand full of age groupers and athletes famlies dotted around the course as the ‘crowds’
I can sort of understand the decision if its going to make the T100 financially viable for the next few years though.
Its sad to see the soul of sport sold out to the rich Arab states in this way (at least Triathlon has an excuse of being a developing sport, unlike Boxing/football)
