No Ironman was discussed on the broadcast.
Would love to know the history there. A British registered motorbike being used in a professional capacity in Spain. Can of worms for licence, insurance and work permits.
Im pretty sure ironman was mentioned or am I just mixing that up with when they mentioned full distance?
Even if thats the case, IM has been pulling the same shit for years, so who can blame them?
The issue is, ironman has godawful commentary in no small part because of this. So now the PTO will give us godawful commentary, but who can blame them?
As the intended consumer of the T100 broadcast, I blame them for providing mediocre commentary today. One reason why it was mediocre is they barely mentioned Ironman if at all, and pitted Wilde (of all people!) as a short course athlete who only this season made his T100 debut and this supposedly makes his results even more phenomenal. The guy came close second in 70.3 worlds last year.
More complaints: talking about run gait ad nauseam, focusing on what was going on in front of their eyes when nothing was going on, and talking about something else when we were finally seeing some action (LCB pulling away from Waugh). Completely ignoring lapped athletes - and identifying them would’ve provided a good story among the sleepiness; one lapped guy was walking!
It was noticeable that when Barclay was asked what her plans were for the rest of the season she avoided saying “Well I’m off to Kona on Tuesday for the IRONMAN World Champs and after that I have 4 weeks to recover and build up to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Champs in Marbella. No, I won’t be racing any other T100s but will be back for the final in Qatar.”
Snowsill did refer to ‘world champs’ a fair bit in the run of commentary.
I only watched in snippets but I like Snowsill, if you think that commentary was dull, stay away from ITU at the moment!
Im hoping Jan and Holland are back, for the end of the season, bring Jack Kelly back! Threads will do huge numbers just talking about Kelly alone!
Sorry, but I do watch every WTCS race and the commentary is loads better. Trevor and Helen certainly don’t wake up to a move on the run a couple of minutes after it happened in front of their eyes because they were busy telling old tales… and when events on the race course do get boring, that’s when their preparation shows as they provide background info and context that IM and T100 Spain commentators never cared or knew to find.
Snowsill wasn’t that bad, especially as she drew from her racing experience, but she clearly hasn’t been keeping her finger on the pulse of elite triathlon recently. Either that, or she was ignoring her own knowledge on purpose. The other pair…
As discussed in the ITU thread, Helen grew on me a bit, but theres zero excitement in any key moments in the race and Trevor has got lazy in this respect also.
The Aus fella who does Supertri will give them all a lesson in how its done tomorrow!
Probably the favourite for T100 Woolongong, unless she does something silly and races the WTS race instead.
Pet peeve, and I’m a huge Kate Waugh fan, but I’m not a fan of the post-race performance qualifier social media posts from pro’s. I’m sure she was sick and has an issue but just say you got beat on the day by the better athlete, you don’t need excuses to explain why you didn’t do better.
You must really hate Lionel for like 8 months a year.
Some cases its warranted. And sadly those are the pro’s that usually dont do it..
My biggest pet peeve is when Pro’s talk about how and when “they won” a race like years ago.. Like right after a new person won a race..
”Congrats to the new champion..Back when I was the champion”
