Prez will announce his choice 9pm EST. I can’t wait.
Did you read the gossip on Drudge about the speculated nominee?
Why the drama with a prime time announcement if not for maximum political advantage? This is wrong. He should announce the decision and be done with it.
Yeah…why should the president stoop to politics?
Are you kidding? This may be the most political annoucement of the year. I’m glad it is going to get maximum exposure.
It’s going to backfire on him. This is over the line. No other president has made such an announcement in prime time. This stinks of politics. At least Rove will be off the front page of the papers. I will be watching the TDF on Tivo.
What is wrong with politics? It is how people win elections, advance ideas, represent the voters. It is the choosed profession of anyone that holds elective office, from the President and Senators down to your local city counselmen and schoolboard and maybe even dogcatcher. In and of itself politics is niether good or bad, it’s just the name of the game being played. It’s not an unavoidable part of the system, it IS the system.
reuters has already reported from a wh source, for what it’s worth, that the time frame of the announcement has been moved in part to take heat off rove.
scuttlebutt is that the nominee is edith brown clement. doesn’t seem to be much known about her and in that sense resembles sandra day o’connor who wasn’t overly well known when she got her nomination.
The Supreme Court should not be used as a political tool. I don’t deny that politics is unavoidable in the appointment process, I just think that to make the announcement so overtly political demeans the Court and the political process.

"I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here! "
I am getting some good news from my liitle sis. She works in the WH and usually sees scripts of speeches or announcements before they are aired on TV.
This is a big part of what the last two elections were about. This is a huge appointment.
I agree. This is a very big deal and the president is treating it as such. There is no way to downplay this announcement.
I hope it’s not Joy Clement. She’s in the Federalist Society, so goodbye swing vote. But honestly she’s the best that can be hoped for at this point.
Just pray to Christ it’s not Edith Jones.
The expanded coverage comes on at 8 EST, you won’t need TIVO.
It is meaningless.
I’ve been playing catch up on the two Ediths this morning. Both seem ok but at first glance neither seem to be reliably conservative enough. The thing about O’Conner was that you just didn’t know how she was going to vote. She was liberal just as much as she was conservative. And of course after Souter it is very hard to trust assurances based on personal familiarity.
And what’s wrong with the Federalist Society? I thought perserving the constitution was a noble idea, but what do I know? I’m from Missouri. ![]()
The bigger nomination I think will be the next one.
I have to believe just about anyone he nominates will be a member of the Federalist Society. That’s a given.
I couldn’t agree with you more on Edith Jones. I clerked on the Fifth Circuit for Higginbotham (now that would be a fine choice) and saw her work up close. I do not like her brand of conservatism and she’s an abrasive person on top of that.
what’s meaningless? the future associate justice? or are you just saying that it won’t matter because there will be a nasty fight regardless?
I do not like her brand of conservatism
Can you give us a quick rundown?
Here is a rather lengthy rundown on both judges.

And here I was expecting an unbiased review of the two judges. Instead, I see a review of how well they each would fulfill a particular agenda. Oh, well.
