Summer is coming, book recommendations?

talking more about tri/bike/swimming/running related biographies etc. always very inspiring…

the story of tom simpson. died on ventoux in 196x (don’t remember the details). if interested, reply and i can tell you the author (don’t have the book available right now)

as far as sports books go i’ve recently read:

every second counts (lance armstrong w/ sally jenkins)
running with the buffaloes (lear)

non-sports books

fast food nation (schlosser)
da vinci code (brown)
angels and demons (brown)

enjoyed all of them… would definitely recommend them all.

Touching My Father’s Soul …by Jamling Tenzing Norgay

The Climbing Leader of the 1996 Everest IMAX expediton, the now famous disaster. Jamling is the son of Sir Edmund Hillary’s Sherpa guide.

Tommorrow’s Bloomsday … Maybe I’ll take another crack at “Ulysses.”

Bill Clinton’s book.

The two new books by Robin Moore.

Anything about Robert Capa.

Prediction: Chelsea Clinton will appear in Playboy magazine in the next two years.

Prediction: Chelsea Clinton will appear in Playboy magazine in the next two years.

I hope that you aren’t recommending looking at that!

i hear there is a new book by dave walsh and pierre ballester.

She’s very pretty now. The “awkward years” have clearly passed for her. Quite an attractive and intelligent young lady with a fine boyfriend as well.

You have my apologies good sir, It had been a few years since I saw a picture of her. After a little google search, I stand corrected. She is mucho better.

Anyone read Bobke by Bob Roll? Ive been thinking of buying that.

I like both LA books and Becoming an Ironman is really good.

Joe Simpson’s “Into the Void.” (climbing)

Bill Bryson’s “Short History of Nearly Everything” (science nonfiction)
.

‘Gold in the water’ by P.H. Mullen

‘Swimming to Antartica’ by Lynne Cox

Both very inspiring!

‘Over the Edge’ by Greg Child: the story 4 American climber’s kidnap and escape in Kyrgyzstan.

And,

‘A Death in Vienna’ by Daniel Silva: A well written espionage novel involving Nazi secrets and Israeli assassins.

I would like to add a prediction to Tom D’s:

One of the Olsen Twins will also appear in Playboy. Seeing as their 18th birthday was Sunday, one of them, probably the one who can’t act as well as the other, will rebel and pose nude for America.

“probably the one who can’t act as well as the other”

wow, thats a tough call. When the acting gets that bad is there really a lesser of the two?

whats worse: being stabbed to death with a dull knife or being burned at the stake?

I second the Bryson Book - I am working on it now. Very amusing history of science and scientists.

Bryson’s actually one of my faves. For something more outdoor-oriented, try his “A Walk in the Woods” about his hike up the Appalachain Trail. Very funny.

**14 Days to Wellness : The Easy, Effective, and Fun Way to Optimum Health **
by Donald B.Ardell, Ph.D./Triathlete
.

For a little mind candy read Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins.

Bobke is out of print, but Bobke II(which includes and expands upon the first) is now out, and it’s not bad. It’s basically your typical gonzo diarist sort of thing. Some good, some borderline. On the whole, I’d say it’s worth reading. It gives you interesting insight into the Tour, the lifestyle of a pro cyclist, and some of the stuff you won’t read about in Lance’s books. It also explains a few things that made me realize that Bob isn’t stupid; his quirks are there specifically to needle people. (ex. Tour DAY France. He does that because it annoys the French.)

There’s a little more detail about Bobke’s bodily functions than I needed to know, however, so be forewarned.
