Storming the Bastille, Advice Needed

All:

Heading to France next week for a much needed vaca and was wondering if anyone had some ideas to as to fun and exciting things to do while there. Settin up shop in the Latin Quarter (Hotel du Levant) and not really looking to do much more than day trips out of Paris, but I can get a car pretty easily I assume.

I don’t have my list handy, but off the top of my head, the following is planned, but I am always open to more suggestions: Louvre Eiffel Tower Versaille Stage 4 of the Tour to Joigny Normandy Day Trip Various Museums and cultural sites The Bastille (Of course!)
Thanks

Bob

That’s a nice photo. My wife and I spent the night during our last trip and it was fantastic. Very quiet after the tourists leave.

Uh, I think there’s a bike race going on in France next week. Might be cool to check out.

The 50m pool in Les Halles is perfect for a good workout!

yeah and Mont St Michelle now that is a hike up to the Monastary so you can get a work out if you climb it fast!!!

Check out a local bike race at the Velodrome Jacques Anquetil in the Bois de Vincennes (Southeast corner of Paris)

Take a run in the Bois do Boulogne

I hook up with a walking tour http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pariswalking/
These are cheap, informative and very well done.

I love the Rodin museum and visit it often. You walk around his house and gardens while looking at his workd. there is a small restrauant in the garden very convient for lunch.

I have heard of the Visite pass which gives you all kinds of transportation, museum passes, no waiting in line for tickets, bateau mouche, lots for stuff-check it out.

bon voyage

Good luck visiting the Bastille. Be sure to take pictures!

(It was demolished in 1789)

The Bastille (Of course!)
The Bastille was demolished after the revolution, so it should be a short tour!

I do think there is a small part of the foundation left, though.

Grrr… you beat me!

Are you serious? You did that?!

Wasn’t that the most fantastic setting? I went running on the beaches. watched a groups of people walked across the bay. heard Mass given by the Monks, and vowed to go back.

Beautiful picture, by the way.

I don’t deserve the credit for the pic of Mont St. Michel as I ripped it off of wikipedia. It’s been 25 years since I was last there, and I did not appreciate it at all when I was a teen… but I can’t wait to visit it again as a completely different person.

Remember a brainy 1980’s movie filmed around there? What the hell is its name?

Hell yes I did it…

I lived in Paris with my girlfriend in 1992…She’s been my wife since 1994.

GO-and soon. Also, go to the D-Day beaches and cemeteries of Normandy-it will change your life.
