Singapore T100 Build Up/Race Day Thread

Duffy is my favourite for the women race, so I’ll definitely be having a punt on her, Bergere and Luis are the other two good value for money bets for me.

Edit Duffy win, Bergere, Luis and Learmonth EW bets.

I’ve not seen him in a while but Vincent Luis looked incredibly lean compared to how I remember him not too long ago. Am I imagining things?

Didn’t notice it, can someone remind me how Luis has done in his MD races? I can remember him getting a drafting penalty in one, Daytona was it? Then pretty much race over and if im not mistaken he’s won his others (in obvious no where near as good a fields as this)

He was my dark horse before I put my bet on.

Ya either that or the camera angle. He looked super fit for a hot race for sure, but as we know with Blu, looks mean nothing. Like Jackets I like him for my dark horse pick, as I recall he hung on really well to the non draft bike specialists, after coming out near 1st in the swims. And he can run fast, only there are a handful of ITU guys that began to outrun him late in his ITU career here too.

I put my money where my mouth resides, a good bet on Hayden to win the whole thing. No doubt I will be winning that bet for a large portion of the race, but of course only one yard of it really matters…So many will be in that lead group, have a feeling that many are going to blow early as the pace will be on to get some separation…

Duffy would not be hanging with lcb in the swim if lcb wanted to drop her. My take on that

The PTO website is your friend:

https://stats.protriathletes.org/athlete/vincent-luis

In Indian Wells he got lost (if I remember correctly) and struck by a car and that let Lionel get ahead of Vincent.

Luis shouldn’t really be a dark horse pick, he’s the best all round triathlete (possibly in triathlon) possibly only Wilde with a better pedigree achievement wise, his ITU results are as good/similar to Geens and MVR, over the last couple of years, no reason he can’t hit the ground running in this series.

He’s just gone under the radar a bit in the build up.

  1. Geens
  2. Bergere
  3. Luis
(Wilde of course could end up destroying everyone, as I predicted 70.3 Worlds though, he’s always had problems pacing himself and im not convinced he’ll have this absolutely nailed (which he’ll need to in this heat)

1 Duffy
2 Gentle
3 Derron

Not really a dark horse pick, but looking forward to seeing how Byram has progressed, was hoping she went under the radar from the bookies, cos I wouldn’t be surprised to see her poduim but they was onto it.

World Tri T100 rules have been amended (dated 1st April):

  1. Drafting
11.3. Any drafting penalties during the bike section will be served at the next bike penalty box [was in T2]. Comment: this makes sure the athlete loses the group that they drafted in)
11.4. The drafting penalty is 1 [was 3] minute.

Failure to have the top of the uniform covering the shoulders at all times;

  • Warning and amend,
  • If not: penalty 30 seconds in PB
Comment: will WPros go for sports bras and tops down to keep cool and reckon 30 secs is worth the air flow? Less advantage in pouring water over yourself if it’s 85+% humidity: it’s air flow that’ll offer cooling.

Ice down the front of your suit cools pretty effectively at any temperature and a sports bra doesn’t capture ice at all.

I’ll take your word for it: I don’t wear one; when racing. Picture evidence for a persuasive win!

Bold thinking, but:

  1. It doesn’t say that you can take the penalty and get a pass on continued infraction.
  2. I doubt there’s much cooling from the air. With the air temperature in the shade around 6 degrees Celcius or 12 Fahrenheit below body temperature, what’s the air temp in the sun - we’re talking air absorbing heat from the tarmac?
Yes the body radiates heat into the air as well, so contact with a cooler substance is not everything. But you get my point…
