Asking about where you live. I used to live in Houston, Texas. With the refineries in Pasadena I think that that area is high on the target list. Now we live in Las Cruces, New Mexico. There are two large active military bases within 45 miles of us so I can see this area being a target.

I live about half way between Detroit and Chicago. This map doesn’t show anything in my county. There is a nuclear plant about 40 miles away and then Chicago about 150 miles away. We would head north to the family cabin and get away from any targets with a few hours of driving. This is sad, I remember having these conversation in grade school in the 70s
Worried. We’re not too far Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station. Used to be the NORAD HQ if I remember correctly but now serves as a training center and backup HQ. Not close enough to be affected by any immediate blast but close enough for fall out.
Speaking of nukes, I stumbled upon an old Titan missile site 3 miles from my house while out on a run. I did some sleuthing and there are quite a few around my little corner of CO. I love nosing around old abandoned military sites.
Damn. Time to buy some property in Montana. Not that property ownership will mean anything in the scenario where all those purple triangles are hit.
I would have said high because I work about a mile from Bangor airport which is the US’ eastern most large airport and has fighter jets and military helicopters that operate out of there, but it’s not on that map as a target.
I live about an hour or two north of the closest targets on that map. I might be safe where I am, certainly if I headed northwest up into the County or Allagash water way areas. No idea if targets in Canada would start to become an issue at some point.
I’m at the bottom of Germany close to the Austrian border. If things start dropping i’m running into the Alps with my cat. Unsure how high priority we would be here though.
My mother-in-law is freaking out and trying to convince us to come back to Australia but if shit hits the fan I doubt there would be many safe places left.

My understanding is that if you’re aren’t in the blast zone and you can stay indoors, the really bad radiation decays (is that the right word?) relatively quickly, like in days or weeks. So I think relatively safe places would exist.
This suggest 24 hours is sufficient for the worst of the the threat from radiation from fallout to be gone.
We live in a triangle area(s), not too far from a nuclear submarine base.

I remember getting a patch and a certificate so everyone knew I was an expert.

We didn’t have that. I remember drills where we would get under our desks, and kiss our asses goodbye.

Well that is atleast some form of relief. We are also just starting to thaw out of Winter so I would rather not dive back into another Winter in Australia (pink).

I moved from a multiple triangle area to a multi triangle (Tucson) to a single triangle (Sacramento) to a obliterated area (Mass)
