…who’d win a head to head?
You’re kidding, right?
Well, Mark would definitely win in a fight ![]()
heh heh heh this should be a fun thread when everyone gets up in the US…so, the Portuguese Slowtwitch hero or the Texas fish???
Sorry my ignorance…but who is Mark Van Arkaren??? ![]()
he’s a regular poster here on Slowtwitch…ex-swimmer, great lad whom I now call my friend…
http://www.markavan.com/
This is kind of weird, since it’s not like “If Ian Thorpe and Kenenisa Bekele raced a triathlon, who would win?”, since both are triathletes so I guess at their next race together we’ll see.
They’re 1-1 right now, but because Mark dropped out of IM WI last year and Sérgio dropped out of Ralph’s this year. So let’s call it a tie… ![]()
And Stephen… you can call Sérgio your friend as well… you just need to send your sister in law Sérgio’s way, and that will get you automatic lifetime friendship… :-p
yes, I call Sergio my friend anyway because he kicked my Gibraltar friend’s ass (I hope he sees this post and gets into a battle with him over this!! heh heh)…at the El Chorro half Ironman, near Granada in Spain last year, not before he had to retire cos he bust his stem on the bike (Sergio) that is…another friend who was watching commented on how much upper body he used getting the bike over hills…which is why he broke the stem…maybe…
So, the question is, will either of them, being the most high profile of the forum…correct me if I’m wrong…will either of them wear the Tribe apparel at the next race and get us noticed???
Sérgio can’t do it because he’s under contract with Team Timex, he needs to wear their gear at all times.
Maybe you should ask Bjorn to do it, he’s with Slowman, has a contract with Cervelo, he’s the most popular athlete here, it would be perfect. When’s his next race?
sac wrote: …Bjorn…he’s the most popular athlete here…
Bjorn might disagree. Besides, we all know that you are the most popular asslete here =.P Oh, wait, you said aTHlete…oh, well, maybe you’re right after all!
What does Bjorn post as in here then?..I have adapted the title then as I didn’t know he was a Tribesman too!!!
Mark would come out of the water in first and would lead the race for the first hour. Then it would come Bjorn flying on his cervelo. Sergio would stay back in third, drinking water, having a snack, smiling for the camera and then… where heroes die and only the strong ones survive - the marathon!
So… where’s the doubt? ![]()
“What does Bjorn post as in here then?..”
bjorn…ok…should have guessed that one…another Rotarian…
well, Mark is a very good athlete, but how many IM podium did he get?
ok…Sergio ![]()
wait a minute SAC… sergio’s already got a GF… and if Stephen’s sister-in-law is anywhere close to his wife… i think we could accomadate her here in central TX :-)…
speara… winner of the hottest wife thread… IMO at least ![]()
SAC, wisconsin was planned to be a drop out… i had only qualified for my first IMH 6 weeks earlier and all my training for the year up to that point had been on the half distance (max rides 80 or so) and my new coach and i felt that for me to try and do 2 fulls in 5 weeks would be insane.
only been on the bike for 2.5 years now and of that only really a year and a half seriously (fall '03)… been running now for only a year, so i’ve got a looooooong time ahead of me in which to get this stuff down. I think i have the patience and dont really expect anything of myself for 4 or 5 years.
BTW- i am flattered to be mentioned in the same thread title as “Mr Andersson” and Sergio. Have yet to meet Bjorn but I know that Sergio is a class A guy and it was great to see him perform so well at AZ.
I look forward to joining you guys in El Paso in late September for preparations for Kona… still got to book my ticket though… IM CdA here we come
I am just a super fish learning to get some land legs underneath me.
Thanks for thinking of me Stephen!
as for racing in the gear… got a deal with TYR so no can do… although i still need to buy one of the shirts so i can look good in the athletes village ![]()
hey I’m working on it bro… no hatin’ in here, k amigo? ![]()
i do have two IMNA half ironman podiums… AG though ![]()
Looking forward to some desert training come mid to late September with you out in El Paso… by then i might be SA_TRI

A swimmer, a cyclist and a runner. Sounds like they’d make a great team.
Hey Mark -
It was nice meeting you at Ralph’s. Thanks for pushing the pace on me at the end of the bike!
Good luck with your season. Let me know if you end up coming out east and want to get together for some training. I’m always looking for volunteers to kick my butt in the pool…
Chris
I like Bjorn’s style, and I just met Sergio at AZ(nice guy and awesome finish!), but Marky V is in the house. Don’t fool yourself into thinking he is just a swimmer. His biking and running are both coming up strong and they are going to be knocking on the door of his swimming dominance soon. Be ready. When it happens, I will post on here and just title it " I told you so "
