SAS Rogue Heros

am so excited for this series, now on BBC playing to rave reviews. Produced by the Peaky Blinders team.

The excellent Ben Macintyre wrote the book – which I’m about to dive into.

the stories are unbelievable. sheer guts and ingenuity and boredom driving young men to risk their lives.

It’s great … 4 episodes in so far

Pretty awesome, general note for no spoilers please

the writing and subsequent combination of good acting is really well done, that one scene where the guy is in jail and the two are talking over each other….one reciting poetry, the other selling or laying out the “upsides” or “glory” of war in order to recruit….wow.

I’m through the series, can’t say anything more without ruining it, a great watch if you have time.

Um … dude…there’s no spoilers, it is based off of real life

Uhh, no shit Miss Marple. The point being that most including myself may not be familiar with the intricacies or details or order of circumstances which make this/these historic events the great story that it is.

Excellent find. I discovered it a couple of weeks ago. Also airing on EPIX (US cable). Did I hear that the next episode 6, is a finale? Very short season.

Yeah it’s on Epix… Epix consistently has great shows

I’ve found British shows are usually 6 episodes to at most 8 and a year or two in between seasons

Streaming on Prime?

possibly to do with the quality of the actors – they all work in other shows + theatre + films so contractual time is tight
.

see above – it’s only just out on the Beeb – am a bit surprised they didn’t wait for US screening on a bigger platform but it may dump down to Netflix or other eventually

In Canada it’s easily found on prime, not in the US?

Ep 1 looks to be on US Prime, but the follow on episodes are on Epix. Though I think I may get that through my cable package.

EPIX has some really good series IMO

… not to derail from Rogue Heroes, but another good one on EPIX is Godfather of Harlem. Seeing promos for a new season now. It’s been forever between seasons for that show.

Loving the series so far. Great soundtrack, too.

a good summary of what life is like at the point of the spear: guts, ingenuity and boredom.

i always liked “The Rat Patrol” Who knew a .50cal could take out a Tiger Tank? I certainly didn’t!

the first sortie was a disaster. Of 55 men who parachuted into a gale, 21 returned. Most died bitter deaths of broken backs/limbs due to rudimentary parachute technique. others became POW.

the waste/sacrifice is mind blowing. But nobody shut them down.

Macintyre can tell a story.

You’ve no idea of the respect i have for these men and their military/cultural heritage. And there is great power in military/cultural heritage

The opening moves of the Falklands Campaign proved the SAS/SBS could still overcome extreme circumstance, disastrous outcomes and provide mission critical success.

“Great Soundtrack too”

This is great stuff

the birth of the SAS has been told several times (they’re a sortta secretive bunch—what color is the door on the boat house?)

Historiography is the history of how history is recorded and the reasons and why it changes over time

Long Range Desert Reconnaissance…there are literally a “metric shit ton” of books on this subject. I threw in the metric part since it was started by the Brits.

So view how this long range reconnaissance group is viewed by:

The Rat Patrol. When was it produced. What were the prevailing social norms at this time. The music? What could you openly say or not say?

SAS Rogue Heros. Same story. Told with bigger budget. What are the prevailing social norms at this time. The Music? What can you openly say or not say?
